shout-out to the kid in my high school class who randomly said that there should be a flag for bisexual denial. The black represents... denial.

edit: hey tumblr why did you post this twice
I keep seeing this screenshot of a tumblr post I edited a while ago and just. Honey. No. You are very gay. You should have known just from how accurate this post is for you.
Vital Social Issues and Stuff
It is really easy to like something even if there are elements that are contradictory to your moral standards if it just appeals to you. Or, in the case of Glee or Lady Gaga or any major studio cartoon ever, if you are also actually dumb.
HOWEVER, it is even easier to dislike something if it doesn't appeal to your aesthetic senses or need for entertainment but ALSO runs against yr politix.
Ya know what every pop culture item in the realm of entertainment has going on whether you like it or not?
IT IS PROBABLY PROPAGANDA. And it is ok to like propaganda if it's pretty or funny to you, especially if you admit to yrself that it is propaganda.
So really I just LOL when ppl are like, "I do not like _______ because of the representationz of blah-blah-blah." Why not just be like, "I do not like it because I do not think the gay person in it is cute?" Because the stuff you like is not some beacon of liberation either.
You run into trouble when you glorify the stuff you like for doing anything good for anyone at all. It just either appeals to you or it doesn't. Everything that gets released and advertised on a large scale is appealing to something conservative and fucked up or, quite frankly, it would not be on the TV.
Remember when queerz on the internets didn't have a monolithic script for why you shouldn't like Lady Gaga yet? And every social media network was a bunch of tubes clogged with a million updates on what a revelation it was every time she squeezed out a turd and had NYU fags polish it for her?
But you know, Gwen Stefani has been our sacrificial lamb for years because she is a racist appropriator.
Might I also mention this whole rollercoaster of interest and disdain is way totally easier to apply and then feel no guilt over when it's about women? That's probably yr own internalized misogyny and shit taking effect. It's like this Madonna/Whore thing. Yr either a GODDESS OF VALIDATION or a CULTURAL TERRORIST.
That whole "It's ok to not like things but don't be a dick about it," thing really gets my goat. I will be a dick about not liking it, because people are constantly liking things in a way that goes against their methods of liking things and they will never admit that they just like things on an aesthetic level and then criticize and discount them on political grounds when they've grown bored.
Me, I probably thought it was boring the whole time, and was trying to tell you it was fucked up politically THE WHOLE TIME. Don't get mad at me for reminding you of your own rules that you agreed to, never shut up about, and helped create!
I do not want to argue the problematicness of Taxi Driver, or GG Allin, or Madonna playing Israel. I like them because: Robert DeNiro gives me a boner, GG Allin is a master of lolz, and Madonna is pretty and cool.
I also do not want to hear: Lady Gaga is a genius of performance art and a social liberation goddess, Harry Potter is fun and smart, Adele is going to save tha world because OMG there is a fat pop star etc...
Tell me why you ACTUALLY like something and we can have a funny conversation about it. I don't even like the things I like so feel free to criticize them on any grounds, and I will probably agree with you and keep liking it anyway! One thing I can guarantee is that I will not be personally offended because I know that the TV is not only NOT ACTUALLY ME, it's not a mirror either. It's a fucking hammer.
