the reason that liberal "social justice" isn't working is because whether or not it's suddenly 2017 and racism shouldn't be happening, america, and a majority of the world, was built using racism and discrimination as a fundamental tool. the structure of our government, too this day, was built specifically to benefit from the oppression of specific peoples. you can't just walk around saying "love is love! if we focus on our similarities, everything will be okay!". it's a cover-all statement that assumes that justice we strive for is purely social. look, there are people, people in positions of power, who want to murder me. and murder my black and brown friends, my trans friends, my disabled friends. my friends who are all these things, because yeah, those people exist. those who want to hurt them, who can hurt them? they aren't ignorant. they aren't just random people who i disagree with. they are the president, the vice president, significant members of the senate and house of representatives, people who make laws happen. they are the person who wrote welfare policy, hospital policy, insurance policy. the widespread ignorance of our population is not a mistake. it is not a mistake that we don't learn about this in schools. it has never, ever been about political correctness, or social justice, it has been about the lives of our friends and the lives of ourselves. how many people will die as medicare and medicaid is gutted for the wealthy? how many people are dying now, because it's never been enough? this doesn't even touch on the effect white colonialism and imperialism has had on the world. the dystopia we fear exists, and it always has existed. even as a minor, speak up. use the kindness you should have received as you mend the world. educate yourself at every opportunity, but more importantly, always be ready to listen and realize you are wrong.
