You guys ever been to a lesbian/gay club?

I haven’t been to a queer party because I’m not into loud clubs generally - they don’t play my kind of music, it’s late at night and I wanna sleep, I’m tiny so all I see are taller people’s ellbows while I try not to have my glasses knocked off my nose, so… ugh, no thanks… but I frequently go to a bi meet-up group (we meet for sunday brunch or for drinks in the evening) and sometimes to events at a queer café/bar/location-thing.

EDIT: I've been to a few gay clubs, mostly when I was 18 or 19, so before I even knew I was queer. I went with my best friend who was gay. I only went a couple times after realising I was bi. I've been wanting to go again but they all seem to be closing down :(

[queer party organizers] are choosing to work as colonial settlers on unceded land with (to my knowledge) very little engagement with Indigenous communities beyond a token land acknowledgement on Facebook. In addition, organizers also continue to choose venues that are gentrified. Many clubs were formally sites of cultural importance to lower income and/or racialized communities.

JUDY : Hell House

I think I was actually more spoilt than I realised when I used to shoot parties in the uk. It helped that I was straddling the worlds of club/performance/circus all at once whilst living in Bristol, but they sure knew how to dress a party and themselves up to the nines. Until I was gratefully thrown into the magical world and minds that make this party, I feared it was nowhere to be found across my adopted vista.

..and then I found JUDY

These days it kind of feels rare for a group of people to put so much heart, thought and prop making skills into throwing a party..just because. No route to inflate any egos or chance of being discovered, but for them it's fun and they clearly want to share that.

Taking over tiny sweaty manhattan clubs, illegal warehouses in brooklyn and even setting sail to take a bunch of queers on a tourist trip for the night, JUDY does it right.

MISSTER at The Woods is Amber Valentine's little baby, her gift of life to every discerning Queer's Wednesday night. Everything that girl touches sparkles, so it's no wonder this party, week in week out became the stalwart of the summer.

If Amber threw a party every wednesday in her apartment instead it wouldn't feel any different. This girl knows how to host and is so damn fluid about it. On rotation she invites her friends (notably the likes of Bruno from Light Asylum, JD Samson and DJ Rasheed) and other wonders who happen to be passing through.

Oh and every week the talent extends in the form of Amber's magical hand drawn flyers..
