Today, a friend of mine asked me where I got the confidence to post so many photos of myself. . It's a reasonable question to ask a trans person. For so many of us, dysphoria can be so crippling that the idea of showing anybody a photo, let alone the entire internet, can be terrifying. . But once I began transitioning, I looked in the mirror and saw the person I've been waiting my whole life to see. I know I'm not the most beautiful woman alive, but at least I'm a woman. . I'm a woman, finally. If you're cis, I can't possibly tell you how difficult it is to look in the mirror and see a stranger. I want to explore all the possibilities this new life offers me. I want to make up for lost time. I want to show younger trans folks that it's still possible to rock your life once you transition. . Or maybe I'm jjust a shallow narcissistic bitch and but if I make it sound deep and meaningful I'll seem inspiring instead of just hopelessly vain. . . . . . #transwoman #trans #transgender #queer #queertoronto #lgbt #lgbtq2 #transgirlsofinstagram #transwriters #instagay #instagirl https://www.instagram.com/p/B2ITAKJgzdE/?igshid=1chqevknmnol5
When #trans people try to describe what it's like being trans to cis people, we'll commonly say things like "imagine if you felt like you were a woman". That doesn't really work for cis men, since they have no frame of reference for that. . It's a little better to say to them, "imagine if you were still you, but your body looked so much like a woman's that you had to live as one". . But for me, it's not so much the making sense of gender dysphoria that's interesting, but the reality of life having existed as, essentially, two different people. . Imagine your favourite movie. Doesn't matter what it is. Now think of the main protagonist. Then, about a third of the way through the movie, swap out the person who plays the main protagonist with someone of the opposite gender. . Even if the replacement actor does a great job, it's still nearly impossible to make any sense of the earlier part of the movie and match it to what comes after the swap. . That's what I'm fighting with now. . . . #transgender #transwoman #queer #queertoronto https://www.instagram.com/p/BzF9VbAAypa/?igshid=vbssi62sg66f
