QUICK BITS: Kate’s 40th Birthday Portraits
What happened: Kensington Palace has announced that there are three new portraits of the Duchess of Cambridge ahead of her 40th birthday. The portraits will enter the National Portrait Gallery’s collection.
My thoughts on each portrait
The red one is good a bit generic, like a magazine shoot, but it’s fine
The white ball gown looks like something from a Kate Bush music video but with less personality
The other white one looks like a picture from an obituary, way too hazy and not clear at all. I expect to see Catherine Elizabeth Middleton 1982 - 2022 at the bottom

What does this mean: The Queen has appointed Charles’s wife, Camilla Parker-Bowes, aka the Duchess of Cornwall, to the Order of the Garter, that’s what this translates to once you cut through all the highfalutin language
What is the Order of the Garter: The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior British order of chivalry. Yes, chivalry, like, literal knighthood. Prince William and Prince Charles are members as well. It’s like a super cool club, there are only 24 members.
What does this mean for Camilla: Every June she gets to march in a parade wearing a big floppy hat with other members and that’s about it.
Should you care about this: No, it won’t affect anyone outside of the Royal Family in any way, shape, or form.
Do you care about this: Eh, not really, I guess it’s nice for The Queen to show Camilla some appreciation, but I’m sort of indifferent to it.
