So, sometimes classification gets changed, and things get moved. And sometimes I make mistakes. So we have another avialan! Yeah, kind-of-birds! Xiaotingia was a small dinosaur from the Bathonian to Oxfordian ages of the Late Jurassic, about 160 million years ago. It was fairly similar to Archaeopteryx, but was originally thought of as a dinosaur - reinforcing the fact that there is very little functional difference between dinosaurs and birds. The classification of many avialans and troodontids (the group of dinosaurs just before sort-of-birds) is under hot debate, due to their similarities; Xiaotingia has not been an exception to this moving around in phylogenies. It was found in the Tiaojishan Formation of Liaoning Province, China. It was about 60 centimeters long and is known from an almost complete skeleton.
