currently they’re now engaging with at least two or three other people who were completely uninvolved in the situation here because they’re trolling tags for any mention of either jonah, elias, mike crew, probably jamherst and prentiss, anyone topical, and. will not give it a rest like i shit you not this started maybe three hours ago and is still going this is a 37 year old adult doing this i do not CARE how very autistic you are when most if not all of the people you are harassing Also Are, and are also this much younger than you
i literally wrote them a massive essay on how they handled this situation poorly and how they can do better like 100% full stop very long and civil explanation with clear guidelines on how to improve and that is MORE than anyone is obligated to give them. but since i did that, now it can be said with full confidence that every excuse they give from now on is exactly that.
g-d i can’t fathom anyone buying this person’s horseshit but the tragic fact of the matter is that young people are susceptible to manipulation from just about anyone especially someone who weaponizes their neurodivergence to victimize themself and frames things as like, asking for your help or valuing your opinion like we read that as Respect and being Acknowledged for our maturity, and that’s how a lot of us have fallen into the trap of being abused online by older people.
like. man we all say and do some dumb shit when we misunderstand social cues, and we have to take responsibility for it. this is firmly displaying that they know exactly what they’re doing and simply don’t care.

yeah, it’s? good to have at least a low level awareness of the people who actively behave like just this specifically so you can block and avoid interacting with them, period. for the record, i did not personally read any of their fics so i’m totally safe, it just became my problem when they started DMing me personally.
people in their 30s aren’t inherently predatory or problematic, but there’s a time and place to interact consistently with young people (family, students, etc.) and fandom isn’t one of them imo. it’s better to try and limit to maybe responding if someone younger approaches you first (like asking you for help, advice, or just saying they like your content, etc), and keeping it short to avoid prolonging the interactions past what the situation calls for.
the problem begins when people this old Are exactly aware of what they’re doing, or simply don’t think it applies to them because they have “good intentions” - but even the best of intentions can result in a bad dynamic that gets younger people too comfortable talking to people your age, and can lead them into trouble elsewhere.
i’m really sorry for putting this on your dash, and i’m sorry you’ve had bad fandom experiences in the past! i just want people to be able to stay Away from people like this user who has made it very clear that they’re indiscriminate about whose activity they start flooding. be safe, friend<3

anon: as someone now in their 30s, who fell prey to the predatory older 'friend' in fandom when I was in my late teens, I want to point out that it's not always someone a full decade older than you/that someone's age isn't necessarily an indicator of whether they're safe to talk to or not.
you’re not wrong about this at all! and i’m not arguing, no worries. that said, i did say a few times already that this isn't a conversation i want to continue having at length, so i’ve been trying to keep it contained. that’s why i didn’t go into all the particulates surrounding the whole concept of predatory internet interaction. you could write 6 different dissertations on this just to cover all the disclaimers and nuance, and they are worth talking about, but not everything has to be talked about in one go, y’know? i’m not paid to do any of this, and frankly the amount of energy that it’d take to cover Every Single Aspect of a situation like this would call for it. i’ve really only been addressing this expression of it because this is the current situation at hand, and the one that was brought into my inbox.
i’ve had an abuser that was a few years younger than me as well as many who were only a few years older, i know quite well that age isn’t the primary indicator that someone will be safe or otherwise, but it sure is a big one that people do still need to be conscious of, whether they’re the older or younger person in a given situation.
