I finally started posting the “Fenris and Quinntus Hawke at Aveline’s Wedding” fic I’ve been laboring over for 5ever.

They’re the fucking worst and I love them.

and Fenris kissing all the new scars thankful that Hawke survived them all, and thankful that Hawke is accepting of all his scars as well.

I was mostly thinking in the context of Quinn and Fenris’s relationship when I answered these. I must say I didn’t expect words of affirmation to rank quite so highly, but then, Quinntus has a lot of self-worth issues, and it really does mean a lot when Fenris gives him genuine (and often unexpected) praise. (Though much like Fenris, Quinn often has trouble believing these words of praise.) It’s not terribly surprising to me that physical touch ranks so highly given their agonizing three year separation. Acts of Service and Quality time are both equally ranked--not a huge surprise there. By the time they get back together Quinntus is the Champion, and has well over a decade of responsibility and taking on other people’s problems behind him. He’s absolutely terrible at asking for help and letting other people help. It’s a very unhealthy lifestyle emotionally speaking, so it’s always a relief when Fenris does something to try and help lighten that burden--and I think Quinntus appreciates even more given Fenris’s past. For many of the same reasons, Quinn also appreciates quality time with Fenris, especially when it’s just the two of them. Any time he can shut out the rest of Kirkwall and spend an afternoon with Fenris is his idea of a good time. None of this is to say that Quinntus doesn’t appreciate the gifts that Fenris gets him--and the two of them often exchange meaningful tokens over the years, but one of the few benefits of moving into Hightown means that he has enough money to buy himself most of the frivolities that he wants--and it’s something he’s well accustomed to doing by the time they get back together. And then when they’re on the run and their fortunes more depleted, it’s less important anyway. So even though it ranks as “lesser” in the heriarchy, I’d say that the gifts themselves have more weight behind them.

Things Said and Unsaid

Title: Things Said and Unsaid

Warnings: Mental health issues (PTSD, Depression, hallucinations, dissociation, anxiety), character death, grief/mourning, graphic description of illness and corpses, body horror, brief alcohol/alcoholism mention. (Check the AO3 tags thoroughly before reading in case I missed anything).

Summary: There are things once said that can never be unsaid. There are things that should be said that remain unspoken. Cannot be spoken. There are things that have been left unsaid for years and now are too late to say. Hawke wants to forget, but today of all days, he is not allowed.Quinntus Hawke has lived through many terrible days, but his mother's funeral might be one of the worst.

Notes: I think this is a perfect example of a story you needed, as opposed to a story you maybe wanted. 

Those close to me know that I’ve always really identified with my Hawke, Quinntus, especially in terms of his mental health issues, and this turned out to be really helpful for me to write. (I just relate to characters who go through loss and trauma in general, really, so I think Hawke was always destined to become a favorite.)

Even if you can’t read the fic, for whatever reason (and that’s totally okay, and I completely understand!!) I highly encourage you to listen to the fanmix itsadrizzit made, it was so gorgeous I couldn’t believe something I’d written had inspired something so amazing. It really captures the emotional feel of the story. I even had to add in a few references to one of the songs because it was so perfect.

I wonder how many times Quinn and Fenris’s friends actually yelled “JUST KISS ALREADY” out loud tho

oh my god tho imagine their compliments like after a long deliberation Fenris finally says something like:

“You.... look like you spent a lot of time on your hair, Hawke. It turned out well.”

And Quinn, bless his heart, finds that super sweet and endearing and is trying not to die and maybe say something nice in return and he’s just like “Thanks... you too.” Only he realizes that’s the wrong thing to say “I mean, you look nice, not that you ever don’t look--I mean, you always look--not that I look--I mean, you’re very han--your clothes look nice.”

So that bridal Aveline piece making me think about Fenris and Quinn at her wedding and omg???? Super awkward. Almost each other’s plus one but not quite. Both of them having all sorts of feels. Super adorable and awkward. And like I can’t. I need to lie down lol
