I would just like to say that as a budding historical yaoi enjoyer, I have never been more delighted to discover any single internet presence than I was upon stumbling on your blog. You mean to tell me there are other humans out there sexualizing 12th century historical figures? What a world. Another person who watches The Lion in Winter for the insane incest vibes and has ridiculous horny little feelings about Philip II of France? What a relief. What a delight. Keep up the good work. I'm off to buy and devour your zine, hit me up if you wanna agonize and drool over Richphil.
Well hello there! XD TLIW definitely shook my world as a work by itself, but getting deeper into learning more about this particular era and culture and the various figures associated with them, i certainly couldn't help but be obsessed. I’m incredibly happy to find people who vibe with what I do and who can understand my Visions. If you’re the one who bought the zine last week I just mailed it out, so hope it gets to you soon!
Regarding RichPhil, I definitely first obsessed more with Richard—funnily enough, not necessarily from TLIW (when i first watched i was more invested in the batshit het drama than the dubious yaoiz), but from going down his wiki page a year later and thinking “wow…what a messy guy XD”. Regarding Philip, I’m always amused by how he is less well known in anglosphere circles except for the 20th century yaoi rumors with Richard which is hilarious to me but also because of it I feel the need to learn everything about him, including both his Famous Cool Moments but also his cringe compilations, it really shapes how I view and think about his character.
Although for both him and Philip, their legacies are just so very complementary and entwined with each others’ that its impossible to analyze and appreciate them individually, they both reflect competing ideals for men of their positions in that time in a fascinating way….I really do love the ship and glad there are Appreciators out there for both the sweet and the sus things I make for them. They really are one of those ships I love to try and explore even in different versions (the different eras in the historical timeline as well as turning them into modern day boys and girls or furries etc)
