According to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, there are rules that determine the reaction of most lifeforms to emerging technologies. One: Anything that is in your world when you are born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way things work. Two: anything that’s invented in the first third of your lifespan is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. Three: anything invented once you are middle-aged is against the natural order of things.

I'm happy and kind of... emotional. What a wonderful ending. But besides that... Arthur being sarcastic to Ford- ouch. But he had had a bad day. Ford interacting with the King- awwww. Especially "There's dust in my eye," for as the book notes Ford has only been seen getting emotional over strong drinks. Finally I understand that Ford was trying to ruin Infinidim by spending as much as he could. Another cute Ford moment- him paying to release as many animals as possible out of the zoo and into the wild. Random just sounded so upset when she shot Agrajag, how can anyone not feel sorry for her? And no wonder his voice sounded weird, if they took Douglas Adams' recording from another source... It felt like he was in a different room from the rest. "Who's Bob?" was the last thing anyone said on Earth. God dammit... And Ford laughing was wonderful. (Wait- should I have said Bob dammit?) the Grebulons naming themselves after Star Trek characters was funny. But learning that the Vogons had orchestrated the whole thing... well, I wanted to cry over that. The Vogons really proved themselves to be "actually evil" here. The alternate Arthurs with the Lintellas and standing up to Prosser with Fenchurch... I CANNOT HANDLE THIS CUTENESS. AHHHHHH THE ENDING THE ENDING THE ENDING <33333 and they played the entire Journey of the Sorceror by itself. My only let downs were that Trillian hooked up with Thor again and that the "exciting music" was never used again. But whatever. Oh, and Wowbagger insulting Zarquon? Awesome sauce. (AND ELVIS SINGING THE KRIKKIT SONG THAT WAS DOWNRIGHT HILARIOUS)
Fit the Twenty-Fifth
I understand how people can hate Random. But I swear to God, her character just makes me sad. I want to hug her. And her voice is so cute. The Guide Mk. II scares the heck out of me.
Fit the Twenty-Fourth...
ZAPHOD!! And the first thing he says when he sees Ford is "Where's Monkeyman?," trusting that Ford would know where Arthur is. That's kind of cute. So he was put in the alternate reality by Zarniwoop after he confronted him? And the Vigons manufactured the Krikkit War as a distraction? I thought everything would make sense, but my head hurts... Ford jumping out the window= badass. Onwards and Excelsior to the next Fit!
Hellooooooo, Quintessential Phase!
Ah, Sandra Dickinson, my dear, your voice is just as annoying as I remember it! And I adore the flashback to Trillian's party... I hereby declare Zaphod Beenlebrox the master of bad pickup lines. But he sounds so convincing! One tiny problem I had is that Eddie was apparently there- he hadn't stolen the Heart of Gold yet. But whatever. "I thought about going to a sperm bank and having one at random." Uh, Tricia... you know what they say about every time you make a decision, a universe is created... Also, Random. Come to think of it, that's an awful name for a kid. Trillian and Zaphod parted "amicably." Okay, that's all I needed to hear. Two things that simultaneously freak me out and make me sad- hearing the Guide's fun voice switch over into the icier voice of the Guide Mk. II, and learning about "Zarniwoop Van Herrl." Good god, I'm not prepared for this. Also, what DID happen to Zaphod?? Don't you go pulling this trick on me again!
Finished the Quintessential Phase
All I can say is "WHAAAAAAAAAAT???" What a twist! I don't know how I feel about it, but it was fun to have my jaw drop to the floor for a minute. I'm unbelievably sad that I have now officially read/seen/heard every incarnation of this marvelous series and can only hope that someone, somewhere, somewhen will make a better movie and I can gobble up new Hitchhikery goodness. Until then, you can bet that I will be re-reading, re-listening, and re-watching this incredible series to the end of the universe.
