"Where's Jeremy?" Voice, low and soft. Despite the glow of seeing his best friend only slightly-dead, he was still quite reluctant to speak to the brunette who'd once held the capacity to light up his hazel optics and his life with something so very alive. She was on edge, and whether she was being blatantly rude with her humanity off, or cold and cut off with it on, he found himself weary of which direction he should take when the thought of speaking to her struck his mind. 

Leaning against her bedroom door, his head slightly tilted, the younger brother finds himself scrutinising her. There wasn't a point to it though. There'd once been a time where he could read her back to front, but that was long gone. 

With Bonnie missing, and the veil as far away from closing as it had ever possibly been, he was highly doubting this could be good for her. Having her brother around for a 20 minutes or so was okay. Much better than okay, really. It gave her closure. Having him around for any longer would only make it harder to say goodbye.

I know there is nothing I can say that’ll sound… right. Hell, you know I’m about the worst pseudo-guardian… chaperon teacher from hell and all…

Look, I was with you and Damon when you staked him - on your rampage to go kill Katherine? And I didn’t see anything wrong with the whole killing Katherine thing. On the other hand, Damon was - well, hurt. So I stuck around to make sure he was getting up again.

Then the veil was lifted so I lent him a hand, and all this crazy crap went down, I had to call Stefan, try to catch up in the tunnels and help Damon lug Dead Guy out to the car… before I knew it, time was up. 

‘Least, I thought it was. And… I knew you needed to talk to Jeremy. I didn’t wanna get in the middle of that. Not with so little time left. There was so much I wanted to talk to you both about, there just wasn’t enough time - I thought there wasn’t - and this… it was too important to interrupt. You needed to talk with your brother.

I missed you too, Elena. So much. You and Jeremy always come first, okay? Damon just… doesn’t have as many people looking out for him, so I tend to stick around when he’s alone. 

I love you kids, you know that. And now that something weird’s going on with the veil…. I’m on my way. You, me, Jer in the Salvatore Parlor, say about fifteen minutes-? I’ll be there. Count on it.

4. Cheek kiss

His lips barely touch her skin, but he can still feel the warmth of her body from so close. Its a light kiss, chaste, and he moves away quickly, knowing that the zone of touching her is unsafe. Not just for his physical safety with her like this, no remorse or something that tells her that maybe she shouldn't kill him, but also for him. Because if his lips touched her for any longer than that moment, if he could feel anymore of her warmth. He might never let go again and fuck the risk.
