Vogue Knitting Winter 2020/2021
The new issue is out and it has lots of intriguing designs. On the cover are two sweaters by Norah Gaughan. In pale green, you see the Isabel pullover with cables meant to represent orchid blooms, worked from the bottom up in the round. It is made up in Elsebeth Lavold/KFI yarn called Silky Wool Aran. And next two it in a natural wool colors in Blue Ski Fibers Eco-Cashmere is her Wind Point, a pieced, cabled pullover. Then, Jennifer Owens designed the Montauk cardigan with cables done in Rowan’s Felted Tweed in the pretty rose quartz. The body is made one one piece and then the shoulders seamed and sleeves added. Am I the only lazy knitter who sees an elaborate pattern on the back of a sweater and thinks, or we could just do plain stockinette?)
All three of these are rated 3 out of 4 on the difficulty scale. In fact, the entire issue’s patterns fall at that rating save for the two others I show here. The Acadia pullover by Erica Schlueter is made in Valley Yarns Berkshire and Berkshire Bulky with the colored cable added via intarsia. Two separate balls of yarn are used to work up the front in the main color. Quoddy by Linda M. Perry is a nice big wrap made using a simple 10 stitch sequence knitting pattern done in Brown Sheep Company’s Lamb’s Pride.
In addition to yarn news, book reviews, and Knit Life features on makers, there is an article on “reviving used yarns” (all news to me as I have been simply frogging them and winding them into balls). Plus a multi-page technical article by Deborah Newton on installing zippers in knits step by step.
