Been doing more research and digging, and I've come to some conclusions (although this is Largely unfinished)

Sufism and Quranism are looking pretty nice to me

As a muslim woman, the conservative ideology behind hijab/niqab sucks and I do not support it in any way or see it as a spiritual requirement in Islam, thank you

However, if you choose to wear it for whatever reason, I'll support you because ✨personal freedom✨ and the fact that not everything you do has to be feminist and revolutionary.

You might feel more connected to your spirituality wearing it, or find it a source of comfort, or any other reason. If you support the patriarchal explanation behind mandatory hijab however, and say things like "it stops rape" and "it's a woman's duty in Islam" or the more liberal "it is feminist and empowering" I will not support you.

I get soo tired of Muslim hijabi influencers who preach about how feminist their hijab is when girls and women around the world are forced into wearing one. Like honey, wear it if you want to. But also recognise the fact that wearing a hijab isn't inherently feminist or anything. And then don't get mad when people denounce the entire religion altogether when they see people(men, mostly men) enforce hijab in the name of Islam.

I see hijab as a neutral statement. Depending upon the context it can be empowering or the opposite. Some radfems totally lose that nuance when talking about it. We need to advocate more for those women for whom it is oppressive and they'll literally be killed or hurt if they don't wear it.

The discussion gets derailed everytime you say "bUt iT iS eMpoWerInG" when hijab is brought up. It also gets derailed when you refuse to see different perspectives on the hijab and just call it oppressive as a blanket statement.

Are Quranists right when they say Hadith/Sunnah is no longer applicable to the world today?

My personal opinion? NO.

In the Quran, Allah(swt) says of Muhamamad (pbuh):

-"...We have revealed unto thee the Remembrance, (The Qur'an,) that you (Muhammad) may explain to mankind that which has been revealed for them.." -16:44

-"Obey Allah and the Messenger haply so you will find mercy." -3:132

-"And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatsoever he forbids, abstain from it." -59:7

Thus, the Quran- while indeed a perfect book- recommends we look to the Hadith for guidance. While we must take into account context, time-and-place, and not take all Hadith literally, Quranism cannot allow the Sufi to have a holistic relationship with the Beloved: we need the help of our Friend and Messenger (pbuh).

And Allah(swt) knows best.

ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ

" those who avoid major sins and shameful deeds, despite ˹stumbling on˺ minor sins. Surely your Lord is infinite in forgiveness."

And do not lose hope in the mercy of Allah; indeed none lose hope in the mercy of Allah except the most ungrateful people

۞ قَوْلٌۭ مَّعْرُوفٌۭ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ خَيْرٌۭ مِّن صَدَقَةٍۢ يَتْبَعُهَآ أَذًۭى ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِىٌّ حَلِيمٌۭ ٢٦٣

"Kind words and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Self-Sufficient, Most Forbearing"
