@thewxnderer arranged marriage starter
Laurel had known since she was a child who she was supposed to marry. Her family may not have been the wealthiest but they were well respected and the Queens had been grooming her to be his wife since she had been introduced to the family. It was all very civilized but during their engagement he had run off with his sister and her entire life had been turned upside down.
There had been others who had courted her and Tommy had offered his hand in marriage but that was as heartbreaking as Oliver had been. Rumors started to circulate that she was cursed and her prospects had dried up. She had wished to follow her father in his work but they didn’t allow women detectives and she had got a desk job at the precinct where she had encountered all kinds of different type of people.
Including one Rick Flag, her feelings for him were mixed. Most of the time he had irritated her but she couldn’t help but miss him when he wasn’t around. Now he was gone and her only hope for survival. She should have listened when her father told her she should stop looking into cases, that it wasn’t her job. He had been the one to write to Rick, to send her off somewhere safe before he found her dead and if it got her married and kept her out of trouble all the better.
Stepping off the train she held her bag close to her and glanced around until she spotted her new husband. “Hello, Mr. Flag. Thank you for helping me.” She knew this was just a marriage of convenience that she shouldn’t expect anything from it. “I’m sorry for all the trouble I may have caused you. I will try and not cause too much in the future.”
