Re-Animated: Obi-Wan Kenobi Akira Bike Slide (Clone Wars 2003) I saw people redrawing this shot from the CW'03 cartoon in their own style, but I wanted to reanimate it instead-- for fun and practice :) I know the cape covering the first few shots makes things easier to animate, but I really wanted to see the character & bike more, so I did a cape-less version, too :) [OpenToonz & Clip Studio Paint]

+Riddler animation: 'Puzzed' (gif version) [link: video version] A silly idea I had a year or so ago while watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966). The "he puzzled and puzzed til his puzzler was sore" quote just seemed like such a funny Riddler line. Decided to finally animate it as a way to test some character design style ideas I was playing with (went with a BTAS-inspired design here), to troubleshoot any potential animation issues.

Ended up using this also as a testground for my lining, coloring, and shading workflow. I went with a kind of simple noir palette to keep things simpler and, overall, I think it turned out nice :) [Animated in OpenToonz, backgrounds made in Clip Studio Paint]

Character design model sheets for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Akira bike slide re-animated thing I did recently. Wanted to see if I could make the design look more like AotC!Ewan. Still developing my character design style, so I used this as practice :) I feel like I failed with the armor knees/elbows but simplifying that design down for 2D animation was never going to be easy...

Just a rough character design, animation workflow, and lip sync experiment. Used a quote/shot from a film I liked (Star Wars: IV A New Hope) so I wouldn’t overthink things– just observing and drawing the reference, not really exaggerating anything major, noting the timing and movement of everything :)

Not perfect, lots of mistakes as I figured things out along the way, but I learned a lot and I think it's a big improvement :)

+Rough animation. Just really thought this turned out pretty-- of jolting upwards as a thought hits, the head turn, and the sense of space when he sits back.

Reviewing it as a gif, I'm noticing it needs another frame at the end to cushion when he sits back so the movement doesn't just snap into the last key pose. Other than that, I'm pleased. Drawing the head turning was much easier and faster this time around after all those head studies :) Learning, growing.

I'm using this short animation to test process stuff-- specifically, animating in OpenToonz but lining/color/shading in Clip Studio Paint. There are still two sections of the animation left to finish, but I finished this one on its own to figure out the method :)

So far, animating is easier for me in OT, clean-up stuff feels better in CSP, but if I find a mistake while in CSP I have to backtrack to OT which gets cumbersome. But if the basics are more enjoyable and the end product looks nice, it's worth it :)

+Character Design: Edward Nygma (BTAS in my style) -- Working on a little practice animation, applying the anatomy and design stuff I've been studying. These designs definitely feel better than my previous attempts and I was able to draw them much faster :)

I really pushed the 1940s style with the clothing, but I'm keeping the palette simple (black/white with an accent color) so this doesn't take long to finish :)
