made a thingy that was supposed to be released yesterday for Easter and stuff but inexplicably wasn't because laziness ensured I didn't finish it oops (the laziness still shows up in the backgrounds ignore those)

this is the point where I realized I haven't drawn a rabbit actually since I was like five and even then it was made out of a bunch of weird ovals and didn't have any legs to go with the feet. I unfortunately remember it enough to know it looked something like this

yeah. anyway

after tiny destiel rabbits I made one of TFW 2.0 because I don't draw Sam or Jack enough and I also wanted to try more rabbit poses. as you can see Sam is not impressed. also I was gonna give Dean and Cas some patterns but idk they just looked better without them so I skipped it. I was also gonna write 'Easter 2024' or something similar on the wall but idk I don't like making stuff specific to one time so I skipped that too

(originally Jack was gonna have one floppy ear and one erect one while Sam and Dean would both have erect ones and Cas floppy ones, so it'd kinda reflect that Jack is idk half human and half angel, but in the end I based it on their hairstyles instead. also there is no partially floppy ear for rabbits where it bends midway down or anything, it's either just erect or lop-eared (the ones Sam and Cas currently have), nothing else even if they can have one each of those. weird)

i’m still learning tumblr…i posted this as a reblog to my last destiel art but i was worried people weren’t seeing it. if i reblog my own post does it show up as a new post? or is it just attached to the old one?

Dean wasn't sure where the rabbit came from, he just turned around one day and it was there in Cas's hands.

 "What," Dean asked, "in the hell is that?"

Castiel looked up at Dean like he had just committed some kind of high and terrible blasphemy. "This is a rabbit, Dean," he answered. "I have taken to calling him 'Mr. Bun.' He does not seem to mind the name too much."

Dean could only blink a few times, stunned. "Well, yeah, I can see that," he said. "But why are you holding it?"

Castiel frowned and cocked his head to the left. "Because he wanted to tell me something," he replied as if this were the most obvious thing in the world.

 Dean nodded. "Alright," he said. "But if that thing shits on my bed it is out."

And Castiel nodded solemnly and Dean would have sworn that the rabbit gave him a look.

        From that moment on, the rabbit was everywhere. It seemed like where Castiel was, the rabbit was, whether that meant that the damn thing was in his hand or in his pocket or in his lap or on his shoulder- wherever. Dean became weirdly accustomed to seeing the little black ears and paws draped over his friend’s hands when he zapped into rooms. He became used to two greetings, Castiel’s gravelly, “Hello, Dean,” and the rabbit’s equally solemn nose-twitch.

Dean got used to the thing, and one day, as suddenly as it had been there, it was gone.

Castiel looked alright when he zapped into the room for about ten seconds, and then he opened his mouth to say something and his voice just cracked.

“Whoah, whoah, whoah,” Dean said, hands held up in a gesture he hoped was soothing. “What happened?”

Castiel coughed and looked at the floor. His hands clenched and unclenched. “Mr. Bun died,” he answered. “And I am not...I may need a few moments to compose myself, I apologize.”

Dean grabbed Castiel’s shoulders, leaning back slowly to catch his eye. “Dude,” he said, “I had no idea. Are you okay?”

“He was...I have known millions of rabbits since the birth of their kind, Dean. I have seen them come and go- I have seen the hawks and the cars and the winters but I haven’t- I think,” he loosed an arm and wiped his face, pulling the moisture from tears downward. He looked at his damp fingers, horrified. “I’m crying,” he said.

“He was your rabbit, Cas,” Dean said. “Crying is normal.”

Castiel shook his head. “No it isn’t, Dean, angels don’t mourn like this. I’ve never cried like this before. Never.” His hand shook. “I’m falling,” he said, very softly.

Dean pulled Castiel closer, hugging him. “It’s okay,” he said. “We’ll figure it out, alright? You don’t have to. We can fix it.”

Castiel pulled out of the hug and sat down in a shitty motel room chair. “Dean, I don’t know if I want to ‘fix it.’” His fingers danced in the air quotes. “I feel more.” His right hand grabbed absently at his breast, over his heart. “It didn’t hurt like this, but I don’t know if I want it to stop.” Dean ran his fingers over his hair. “Well shit,” he said. “Yeah, that sounds pretty human to me.”

“Are you always this scared?” He asked. “All the time?”

Dean shrugged and nodded. “Probably not as freaked out as you are right now, but...yeah. It’s...scary. But, uh,” Dean coughed. “You don’t have to do it alone. And that helps.”

Castiel looked at Dean and cleared his throat again. His eyes were red, his nose running a little big, his skin flushed. His hair a mess. His clothes a little musty, his breath a little ripe. Naked.

Beautiful.

Dean kneeled down before Castiel and leaned forward, slowly, gently, the option to leave always apparent.

And he kissed him.

And Castiel didn’t do it alone.
