But yes. Wonderfully naive characters that aren’t taught a lesson *and* turned into bitter dudes/dudettes/what have you are life. Like, people that slowly adjust, come to understand that the world is not as kind as they thought or sex is way more complicated than they or the world is simply more complex than they believed, but not as some soul-wounding shock that turns them darker than ‘tough, worldly’ characters.
There is something to be said for innocence. There is something to be said for practically unfailing optimism. And there is a strength in choosing to be kind, even if they don’t know all the risks.
Yeah, just my thoughts--and my annoyance at seeing too much ‘break the cutie’ or whatever.
