“the whole world is singing... but we’ve stopped listening.”
Racing Extinction 2015, dir. Louie Psihoyos
I'm binge watching documentaries and I am so angry.
You don't get to yell at and blame people in poverty for doing the only thing they can to make money without providing an alternative.
I don't care if they're hunting manta rays or destroying the amazon rainforest, unless you provide a sustainable and feasible alternative for those workers you have no right to put the blame on them.
You don't get to blame people just trying to feed their families, you don't get to point at them in front of thousands of people and say its their fault and then show Elon musk as some kind of environmental hero.
And you don't get to show wildlife tourism as a sustainable or suitable alternative.
Everyday is Earth Day 🌱
I meant to post this on Earth Day to talk about veganism but I went on a rant about my own experience of my transition/ journey to share and it took too long. I’ll post that one in the future so I want to list documentaries I’ve watched and really enjoyed of how well done it is and hopefully by me sharing this it will raise awareness of what goes on in our planet, our home. This list has no particular order in what to watch.
1. Earthlings (2005)
This can be currently found on YouTube and it is narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, a vegan king, I have to say that this movie is really hard to watch in the beginning but it is so worth finishing it till the end
2. The Biggest Little Farm (2018)
This is super cute to watch, it can be currently found on Hulu and it will literally make you want to start a farm of your own. I heard that it can be found on Netflix in Canada
3. The Game Changers (2018)
I saw this one on Netflix and I liked how it showed athletes who are vegans and how eating meat to get big is just a myth because you can get it from plants too and that reminds me of two of my favorite fitness girls, Katya Elise Henry and Daisy B Querrero. My dad watched it with me and was inspired to try a plant based diet for a week to try.
4. Racing Extinction (2015)
This can be currently found on YouTube and it’s really sad how there’s species around the world being extinct due to us humans. Very touching to watch.
5. What The Health (2017)
I showed this movie to my sisters when it was on Netflix, not sure if it’s still on there, but it made them try out being vegan for a month that year. Now one of my sisters has been a vegetarian for over a year.
6. Fed Up (2014)
I saw this in my anatomy class during senior year and it’s cool how it shows 3 cases (I think) of real life kids.
7. The Cove (2009)
This one is for the dolphins, Ric O'Barry is just amazing
8. Blackfish (2013)
This one is a popular one, just watch it on Netflix if you haven’t already
9. Tapped (2009)
You’d be surprised when you drink from bottled waters and it’s currently found on YouTube
I will be writing more so I’ll keep editing and posting with other documentaries I’ve watched. Not making anyone to become vegans but to watch these movies with an open mind and make your own choice from there if you do decide to transition or not. Or make a compassionate choice like how Paul McCartney said. To me being vegan isn’t just a diet it’s literally a lifestyle choice. It’s what you eat, wear like makeup/clothes/shoes, and this is one of those topics I love talking about so I can’t wait to share more! I know the word vegan has a lot of stigma so i prefer to call it a plant based lifestyle xx
Silent Melody, the end is close. One last song and I am gone. ~ "Silent Melody" (dyptich) Gouache, ink, and acrylic on paper. April 2019. Painting response to documentary "Racing Extinction" It's been a while since I last saw this documentary but a scene I often remember is about the Kauaʻi ʻōʻō bird. In the film, a recording is played of what is believed to be the last male of the species singing for its partner, unaware that the song will never be heard. After some tests with different gouache colors and brushes, I painted this in one sitting. But it took me much longer to come up with its name. In the end, the small poem could touch on the emotions in the painting better than other combinations of words. So actually "Silent Melody" is just its shortened name~
it’s memeep time again, folks

Hello, friends.
I'm imploring all of you to take time to see this documentary by Oscar-winning director Louie Psihoyos. It tackles issues on climate change, the role of the ocean & marine life, extinctions, and the impact of our ways. It's called Racing Extinction. It came out in 2015 and has since been aired on The Discovery Channel.
I would understand if you find this sort of thing depressing and would rather not be bothered. But make no mistake; whether you want to be bothered or not, you already are being affected—all things big and small are.
