Posted @withregram • @themindfuldietitian Feeding & nourishing ourselves adequately, in ways that meet our needs both nutritionally and emotionally in a culture which is so demanding and oppressive can be a difficult feat for many people. If we have grown up believing that - because of our body - we "should" be eating/not eating in particular ways, that we should be "earning" or "burning" the food we eat and/or that pleasure from food is only for "certain people" (read thin, white, cis-gender, able-bodied, all the privileges) then it makes COMPLETE SENSE that we are going to find nourishing ourselves hard work. Maybe REALLY hard work. Unlearning all the BS that we have been taught requires a safe and brave space where we can unpacking that suitcase, take a good look around and make decisions for ourselves. Most importantly, for the bodies we have TODAY. Not the bodies we have been led to believe we should be pursuing, not the bodies we And. I want to be clear that the desires and pursuits of bodies which appear to bring us greater life satisfaction - or at the very least some respite from weight stigmatising hell - is so very, very understandable. Sharing your experiences with someone who will hold that space for uncertainty, fear, confusion, shame, and more (there can be LOTS of feelings...) is very important and we desperately need more weight inclusive healthcare providers. . . We might start with the question "If I was to eat enough satisfying and tasty food today/for a week, what thoughts/feelings/sensations pop up? What are they telling me about the experiences I have had of food, eating and my body? What stories have I been told about food and bodies which, to the day, inform or influence by ability to feed myself enough satisfying food?" . . This is not simple, or a one-stop-shop, it's quite complex and can be tricky work to do. It can feel, and be totally RADICAL. Please know that nourishing yourself is not the exclusive domain of the privileged. It's a human right. . . #HAES #humanrights #mindfuldietitian #radicalacts https://www.instagram.com/p/B8pcAkmHQDt/?igshid=1b32zc1qxxs1j
