hello! have you made a post on your ID tag yet? how you came up with it and the sort! if it's not an invasive question, ofc. I find this subject very interesting :•)
Hi! I have mentioned somewhat how I came up with it but I can answer it more in depth here
I started with a lot of research on IDs, unfortunately there’s not much info on the tags themselves, at least outside of wolves. But luckily after enough time I put together enough info to at least somewhat base my number on other martens numbers
For those that don’t know, I am MF412-M or 412M for short if that’s a mouthful, I’ll put together why I picked each thing in the name
MF stands for my species scientific name, Martes Flavigula. I put this in as the best example I got of marten IDs is through a thing on pine martens (here) that showed they all started with two letters to signify their location. Because I don’t know where exactly I would inhabit if I was in the wild I thought it would be interesting to represent my species instead
As for my numbers, 412, they honestly don’t mean that much beyond being the numbers I tend to go for. I debated doing things like my year of birth but I don’t really feel any strong connection to it, and I also have no exact date of when I awakened or anything, but I believe it was sometime in 2024 when I first figured out about martens or at least started my transition to looking more like a traditional member of my species so I guess you could count the 4 as part of it. But these are just numbers I like the sound of and always tend to use, I guess lucky numbers if you wanna put it like that. Them being even though does represent me being transgender, as at least through what I’ve heard males tend to get uneven numbers (but I don’t believe this is ALWAY the case, use whatever numbers you think fit best)
I also believe it not being a bigger number (like most of the wolves I see having 4 numbers) represents just how understudied my species is, I’m not exactly sure if that’s how that works obviously, in fact I don’t think it is how it works at all lol, but still that’s somewhat how I see it
And obviously M stands for male, I almost used X or something similar, as I’m more agender/ gender nonconforming but despite that I heavily align with having male anatomy so it made sense to me that at least in this case I would be recognized as male
Feel free to ask any other questions if needed but hopefully that helps put together my thought process. Remember if you are looking to give yourself a ID it can be whatever you want and you don’t have to follow what I did, this is just what made sense to me
