I rarely reread books but this year I reread The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson (and its two sequels) and they were all just as good the second time around! I also reread The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman around Halloween bc I wanted a spooky audiobook to listen to and I found a full-cast version through my library that was really good.

I had to go back and see what books I read this year that were actually published in 2022 lol, but my top two (bc I can’t pick just one!) are Babel by RF Kuang and Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White. Y’all know I love linguistics and RF Kuang’s writing, so Babel was pretty much my perfect book and I think it lives up to the hype. I haven’t seen many people talking about Hell Followed With Us, but it’s a fantastic apocalyptic, queer, body horror, sci-fi novel, so if that sounds like your thing, you have to read this! It is very heavy on gore, transphobia, and religious trauma so definitely check with trigger warnings if you need them. I loved it and would recommend it to fans of Wilder Girls by Rory Powers for all those good queer, sci-fi, horror vibes.

this is out of spite but like the red pony. i read it when i was 7 and the pony DIED maybe a third of the way in and i cried SO MUCH and i was like "this is stupid whats the point of this the pony is DEAD why is there more book" and i hated it and that has stuck with me to this day. i think this is very understandable .i was very upset about it as a young 7 year old who wasnt an EVIL PONY HATER and i will hold this grudge until the day i leave this earth

THIS IS SO REALLLL idk the red pony but i had to read where the red fern grows and THERE IS NOOO FUCKING POINT TO THAT BOOK *EXCEPT* THE DOGS DIE. like EVIL explodes it!!!!!!!!!! like literally the resolution to the book is the dogs die and everyone is sad. no other plot no lessons learned. HATE
