NEW MAP: Europe 263: Limesfall (early 263) https://omniatlas.com/maps/europe/2630118/ With Odaenathus securing the East, Gallienus turned to Postumus and his ‘Gallic Empire’ in the West in 262/263. In the ensuing struggle, Gallienus regained control of Raetia but was unable to break through into Gaul. This stalemate left the Agri Decumates exposed, persuading both Roman factions to abandon the old frontier by pulling their garrisons back to the upper Rhine and Danube. #thirdcentury #3rdcentury #ancientrome #atlas #agridecumates #raetia #gaul #gallicempire #europe #europeanhistory #postumus #gallienus #historicalmap #historylesson #historylover #historynerd #historyteacher #germania #map #maps #palmyra #roman #romancivilwar #romancivilwars #romanempire #romanhistory #romans #uppergermania #worldhistory #newmap (at Rottweil) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIFcx0GgZsw/?igshid=qcfw1a4y8g55
I just had an idea for an industry that must exist in the D&D Universe.
A building company called Hi & Lo run by a Gnome and his Goliath wife. They specialize in converting existing spaces to accomodate small and large size creatures and can do full conversations of houses if they change owners.
I’ve also decided that Raetia has a law on the books that public offices and businesses have to be able to accomodate large and small sized creatures because it would be a hassle if a Gnome couldn’t reach the counter to fill out paperwork or a Goliath couldn’t even get in the builldling. And private businesses like inns and pubs have chairs stashed away to fit different sized creatures and inns have options for rooms with large or small beds.
Bestiary: Baltra Lizardfolk
The Baltra Lizardfolk are a sub-species of Lizardfolk native to the coasts and marshes of Raetia.
Unlike most Lizardfolk the Baltra tend to have flattened noses and spikes along their backs and necks, and generally have a dark brown to black skin color, though members with bits of red, blue and even green have been observed. Like most Lizardfolk sexual dimorphism is minimal, though males do tend to be slightly larger, averaging around 5 and a half feet. They have broad tails to help them steer when swimming, and they can hold their breath for up to an hour. Their lifespan is comparable to humans and averages about 80 years.
Baltra communities are heavily family based and are primarily composed of dozens of boats that are strapped together and float along the coasts and rivers of Raetia. Each family has their own boat and it’s not unusual to see multiple generations of the same family living together. The boats are often extravagant and contain multiple rooms that have been added on over the years and generations, and each craft has a unique name. Baltra will often use their boat’s name as other races would use a surname, for instance Hadi of the Craft Muljana goes by Hadi Muljana among non-Baltra.
If a boat gets too crowded (which is rare because Baltra don’t mind close quarters) a family, usually a mated pair and their offspring, must build their own boat and pick a new name for it, which often entails an extravagant ceremony to name it, usually after an important event or location to that family. This new family will then start going by their new craft’s name.
Because they move with the schools of fish that are their primary source of income and food Baltra are used to being nomadic, though they are known to settle on land. Even so, land based Baltra rarely venture far from the water.
Baltra are also well known for being excellent navigators on the oceans and marshes, and it’s considered foolish to chart and expedition in Raetia’s waters without hiring a Baltra onto the crew.
