Bjorn Ironside :

- Not saying it would a requirement but . . . . you know it would definitely help your relationship if you can hold you own in battle - If you both met on the battle field fighting for the same cause UUGHHH he would be swooning - Personally I feel like y'all he would realize his feelings for you during Paris, if you were there *hint hint* - Now all this being said he would still prefer for you to stay close to his side - This man would have such a protective instinct over you I swear to the gods - Bjorn would also gift you a necklace with mjolnir as well as protective metal garb with runes of the gods blessed at Uppsala - Before every battle he wouldn't voice his worries or that he loves you he would simply place his hands on your face and rest his forehead on yours <3

Ubbe :

- I say this with my whole chest HE IS LOOKING RESPECTFULLY - This man would see you as an equal and even ask you for battle strategies when the time comes - Whether you two are together platonic ally, romantically, etc. he would always make sure to give you something of his so you have to return it to him after the battle ("If you don't I will drag you from the halls of the gods and kill you myself" He would have that signature smirk that he got from his father lmao) - Eventually if you start giving him stuff of your own before battle he would be over the moon and you would be lucky if he doesn't propose right then and there - He is a man of words and action so directly after the fighting has ceased would search for you and then engulf you in his arms talking of how great you were and How proud the gods are of all those who fought along side y'all

Hvitserk

- Kinda feel like this man would be fairly indifferent. Don't get me wrong, hes proud ( a wee bit confused) such a person would choose to be with him gods he'd nearly drop over dead but other than that its business as usual - Perhaps it would allow him to feel comfy with being more rough when it comes to your sex life if you know what I mean - Now we all know that this poor man has a drinking problem annnnnd after every battle victorious or not you both will go drinking mead . . . . eventually you of course would have to cut him off - While drinking though you guys would be sloppily tending to each others wounds - Cuddlying will ensue no questions asked (he prefers being little spoon but does not mind having you laying on top of him attached like a little Koala)

Sigurd

- Now lets get this all sorted Sigurd doesn't love physical confrontation unlike some of his brothers *couch* Ivar *cough* BUT he would find it so hot when you have that after battle look (as long as you're not injured of course) when you are covered in sweat and blood - Don't ask if he does though because he will fiercely deny it - Once everything is said and done you can bet he will tackle you with the most passionate hug and kisses no matter who is watching - When that is finally out of his system he'll take you to get a bath where he'll scrub you down while humming a song he can't quite remember then he will "graciously" let you clean him up too

Ivar the Boneless

- I am going to politely say this once and I will not be repeating myself Ivar will have you on his side if you are a good fighter we all witnessed what with Bishop Heahmund - But seriously if you are true to him and loyal (though if we are being honest with each other he is just suspicious everyones loyalty no matter who they are) he really could not give a damn - Well that is what he'd tell you but every once in a while he might just bring you to where he is standing away from the battle purely for strategical reasons of course - Off the field this man will give you tips and even train with you. Teaching you how to fight like him, to be sly, to be quick, and to think on your feet - Now as amazing as this all sounds there is the downside of having to calm him down when hes angry and even fighting some of his personal battles like when someone gives him a tough time. I believe its fair to say that you can get protective over him even if he doesn't need your protection

Ragnar the Younger

- Kinda like Bjorn I'm not gonna say its a requirement that you are fighter however you know it won't hurt you know - Now as I am sure we are all aware family is so important to Ragnar so if you are fighting for his family's cause be it Uthreds, his own, or his fathers he would already admire you - Gods if you are ever put in a positions where you saved his life hed be like well damn guess I have found the one and he would be eternally grateful - He's the type of person who would allow you to have your own life and he will have his and you both will meet in the middle and if suddenly in life you decide hey I want to be a badass warrior he would more than willing to help you train and then let you be on your merry way (he is proud of you do not worry) - After every battle cue him frantically searching the field praying to Tyr and Thor and Odin and Freyja and whoever that would listen that you were alive and when he finds you expect to his a bright smile despite his physical state

Uthred of Bebbanburg

- He has a thing for warriors. No questions. - Uthred will playfully fight you and even jokingly challenge to draw the square for a duel. Gods help you if you accept, he will not go easy on you and if you think he would you are wrong. - If you have sworn your sword to him, he would treat you as a friend, a companion. He would even see you as someone he could trust with his life seeking you out for advice (even when he didn't need it) - Now if you had sworn your sword to someone else and you were a good warrior he will stand with you to the best of his ability. IF said person was King Alfred you and him would be attached by the hip - Idk if you all know that one scene in star wars with Kylo and Rey

Welp, now I can't get the idea outta my head so here's a drabble for you. It's super unedited but I hope you like it.

Title: Whose Turn Is It?

"No, it's my turn."

Sigurd tossed a throw pillow at Hvitserk. "Why the hell is it your turn?"

"We've only had sex twice this week. I should get at least once more with her!"

"That's more than me!" Sigurd argued from his spot on the couch.

"That's because you went to some kind of fucking band camp, fuckwad." Ivar stated, glaring at his brother.

"IT'S NOT A BAND CAMP, ASSHAT!"

"What else is it when you and those dipshits pretend to be in a boy band?"

"Ivar, I swear to fucking–"

"Enough, both of you." Ubbe interrupted in a monotone voice, as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Hvitserk, you spent the night with her last night. You have to wait your turn."

Hvitserk slumped back against the couch, arms crossed over his chest with a pout. "Fine….but y/n has to make it up to me later." He sent a cheeky wink your way.

You flushed because you knew exactly what he was referring to….and it sent a throb of need to your core.

"Well, whose turn is it then?" Sigurd said, drawing your focus back to the conversation.

Ubbe stated. "Technically it's my night with her–"

"I've been gone all week! You guys were able to take my time!" Sigurd further argued.

You met Ubbe's gaze from across the living room. You could almost feel his confliction, especially when his gaze turned heated as his blue eyes took in the way you were leaning against the doorframe. The two of you had made special plans for tonight….something neither of you wanted to miss out on.

As a new round of arguing began, you stifled a yawn. It had been a long day and knowing what had been planned for tonight had left you hot and bothered all day. So if someone did not hurry up and see to your needs, you were about to take care of yourself….and lock the door so they could not watch.

Finally, you pushed off the wall, unwilling to wait anymore. Four sets of eyes locked on you as you moved. "I'm going to lay down. Whoever wins better bring some lotion cause I deserve a massage first after all of this."

Without a backward glance, you headed down the hallway to your bedroom and unceremoniously flopped onto your bed like a walrus. With a sigh, you closed your eyes and allowed the comfort of your bed to soak into you.

Back out in the living room, the arguments continued on for some time until Ubbe put everything on hold to go ask you a question. He peeked into your room and with a fond smile, closed the door behind him.

"What'd she say?" Hvitserk asked.

That fond smile never left Ubbe's face as he replied. "She's asleep. Gods, she looks adorable when sleeping."

"Yeah, she does." Sigurd nodded. "So what now?"

"We wake her up." Ivar said with a shrug like it was the obvious explanation.

"No." Ubbe shot his youngest brother a look. "She's had a long week. We'll let her sleep. Fuck. I guess it's cold showers for us."

"Fuck! I'll head out. Take a long shower at home thinking about her." Sigurd shoved off the couch, heading to the front door. "Night!"

"I claim shower first." Ivar said, heading towards the bathroom.

Hvitserk groaned, "you don't even live here."

"So the fuck what?"

Ubbe looked over at Hvitserk, who just shook his head in that resigned expression they all wore when it came to dealing with the youngest Lothbrok.

"I'll clean up the kitchen then head to bed." Ubbe said.

"Alright. Night, Ubbe." Hvitserk rolled off the couch dramatically and started towards his room.

"Night, Hvits."

Ubbe cleaned up the kitchen, tidying it up and wondered for the thousandth time how his beloved brothers managed to make the place more messy than a pig's sty. Thankfully you were also as clean as him and had no issues tidying up after the others. Once he was satisfied, he headed down the hallway. But instead of heading to his own bedroom, he opened the door to your room and silently slipped in, closing it before anyone else could be the wiser.

He had no qualms about lying to his brothers for this. He was not about to miss out on the special plans the two of you had made. Not this time.

And if the way you were soon panting his name was any indicator….you did not mind being woken up. Especially when you pinned him down for another round claiming you were not fully satisfied yet.

Marriage [PART I]

It wasn't a rare event when a Jarl came to visit Kattegat and introduce himself to the famous Ragnar Lothbrok who also happened to be king. It was no different when a fleet of ten boats entered Kattegat's haven in the late evening shortly after the ice had broken. The spring had taken over, yet the sky was still tearing with the small white flakes that had become so familiar in the last months.

There were a few bystanders when the crew left their ship and made their way to the center of the city. They were accompanied by a group of Kattegat's guards with their significant blue shields. When they entered the longhouse, a beautiful woman sat at the fire.

The Jarl stepped forward, kneeling in front of the queen.

"Hello, Queen Aslaug. My name is Eidr. I am Jarl of Fharun and came to meet the king." The leader's words were spoken nervously. A young woman stood to his left and bit her tongue at her father's narrow embarrassment. He was a great warrior and respected among his people for his intellectual strategies, yet she had noticed him struggling with social conversations a lot in the past. The queen had meanwhile risen from her seat and politely greeted the men with a friendly smile.

"Welcome to Kattegat, Jarl Eidr. I am afraid that my husband has traveled to Hedeby. But I am certain that he will return soon. Meanwhile, my servants will make sure you're well taken care of." The Jarl nodded, before turning to his daughter and a young man on his right.

"These are my children. My son Gustav and my daughter (Y/N)." He introduced them with a proud face while he shoved them forward a bit. Each of them bowed before the queen, who welcomed them as well.

"My sons have gone hunting. Therefore I will introduce you to them at the feast tonight." With that, she raised a finger to call her servants and ordered them to lead the visitors to their huts. "What a huge longhouse they live in." Their father pronounced once they arrived at their hut. "Yes and their fleet is impressive too," Eivor answered with his typical warrior's fire in his eyes and excitement in his chest. It was usual that her brother and father would lose their tongues in their astonishment at other settlements. They both shared a trait of good observation, analyzing everything like her. Still, it was contrary, that her father wasn't as good with words. Normally her mother would take care of that part. However, she stayed in Fharun to look after her younger brothers and sisters. On normal terms (Y/N) also wouldn't have come with her father. However, because she was raised a shield-maiden, she was granted the journey. Daughters of other Jarls accompanied their fathers only to find another Jarl's son they could be married to. Fortunately, her father didn't hold much of such coalitions. At home he had alliances, but these were made with intelligent schemes, helping out or just being generous, rather than an arranged marriage.

In the evening, they had found their way back to the longhouse where they feasted with the king and his family. Ragnar was quite the character, she thought. Strong and determined, how you would imagine him from the stories. He knew his way with words and seemed pretty self-assured. He truly impressed the Jarl's daughter and certainly, he was impressed when conveying with her too.

"You are incredibly witty and smart, (Y/N)." Ragnar's eldest son Bjorn claimed with a smile after Ragnar and she had ended a neat battle of words. The king threw her a defeated but confident look. Her father was as proud as a father could be. It might have not been in his nature but as he looked at the five sons of Ragnar, he couldn't help but think that it would be more than beneficial if his precious daughter was married to one.

When the crew and Kattegat's people joined the feast shortly after, (Y/N) was standing at her father's side, watching her brother's flirtatious eyes on one of the women. She had caught herself peeking at Ragnar's sons from time to time. One had her the most curious. He was standing with his parents, carefully observing the feast just like her, with a cup of ale in his hand. Ragnar had introduced him as his second-oldest son Ubbe. He was a spitting image of his father. Yet, contrary to Ragnar's, his eyes didn't beam with the same wildness. When she examined him he appeared a lot calmer and thoughtful.

"You should introduce yourself to the people, dear." Her father suggested without him noticing her stare at Ubbe. (Y/N) only nodded, when her father made his way to Ragnar. Her view shifted through the room looking for the other brothers. Bjorn was sitting with Hvitserk near the entrance, both drinking heavily and chatting loudly. Sigurd was flirting with a woman, just like her own brother, who seemed to have found one that fell for his compliments. Ivar had left the feast already. He had this wild look like his father and (Y/N) had seen his mother pamper him a lot more than the others. It probably was because of his legs. Because Ivar wasn't able to walk he had no other option than to crawl. He did so very fast and consequently it was unmistakable to her that he was just as ambitious as his father since he must be training a lot. "Who are you looking for?" A deep and raspy voice woke her from her thoughts and made her eyes shift to her right, where they met those of Ubbe. "No one." She smiled politely and turned to face him. He examined her features for a moment, a small smile appearing on his lips as well. His smile grew when he shifted on his feet, folding his hands in front of his waist. His head pointed more to the ground, while he looked at her from beneath his eyebrows. "What do you think of Kattegat?" He asked. "Well, I can't judge a whole city when I've just seen its haven and longhouse." Her answer induced Ubbe to smirk. He was intrigued by her intelligence since the feast earlier, only waiting for her father to leave her side for him to be able to speak to her in private. "Do you want me to show you around?" He questioned with a playful tone and just then she saw this glow in his eyes that she thought didn't suit his calmer appearance when he narrowly nodded at her to answer.

"Sure." She grinned and lead towards the entrance when Ubbe directed her to go.

The air was raw and she could catch Ubbe glancing at her limbs to see if she was freezing. He pointed around explaining everything to her while she listened. The sky was covered with a delicate layer of clouds and a blanket of fog laid itself across the land outside of Kattegat.

They had reached the barriers to the inland and stopped to take in the view from the small hill.

Ubbe turned to look at her and studied her profile until his view landed on a scar at her ear. It reached from the point where her ear and cheek met and went over the top of her ear, where the upper rounding was cut out. It continued behind her ear down to her neck and disappeared below the pelt she was wearing over her Viking clothes. She had decided to not wear a dress tonight, that's not how she dressed normally so why change it just for a king?

"Where did you get that scar?" Ubbe inquired and caused her to meet his gaze. "In battle."

The frown on his face vanished the more he thought about it. At first, he saw her as the elegant, beautiful, and intelligent daughter of a Jarl but now her confidence and courage made a lot more sense. Never would he have thought of her as a warrior.

"So you can fight?" He questioned to assure himself.

"Is that a challenge?" Her eyebrows raised, causing her forehead to wrinkle. Ubbe was shortly caught off guard by the glimpse of joy and enthusiasm in her eyes. It wasn't that she took his question as an insult but she sure took advantage of it for her amusement.

Clearly, Ubbe understood and snickered at her before he indicated her to follow him. They went to a nearby weapon rack where Ubbe took each an axe and a shield. (Y/N) took her coat off, placing it on the rack. Next, they positioned themselves.

For a moment they only stared at each other each of them ready to charge.

(Y/N) attacked first. She ran towards him but Ubbe skillfully dodged her strike. Again they faced each other. And again it was (Y/N) who attempted a hit. This time, however, she spun with Ubbe as he dodged again.

She managed to shove him forward with her shield. Ubbe stumbled a few steps but quickly caught himself and gawked at her with wild eyes. Before she could launch another attack, Ubbe was already charging at her. She rolled to the right and was now standing behind him, but he had learned and took a step to his left before (Y/N) could reach him with her shield again. With a minor movement, he tossed his shield aside and strode slowly towards her. A smile grew on her lips as she saw another opportunity to poke fun at him.

"Can't you hit a woman?" She teased and swung her axe over her head at him. He caught her shot with his own. Both released their sharp weapons and (Y/N) took the moment to smash Ubbe with her shield in his chest. The impact resulted in him losing his balance and falling to the ground. She stood over him, grinning widely. "Only those I like." He mumbled, tugging at her ankle. Just as he did before, she fell backward into the sand. A chuckle fled her lips when Ubbe jumped back up to his feet. Now it was him who hovered over her.

He scanned the area for any unwanted eyes before extending his hand to her. With ease, he pulled her up to her feet.

They stood close in front of each other, their breaths still heavy from their current combat. She could see his chest rising visibly in the corner of her eye. His ice-blue eyes stared at her, his gaze was captivating. He slowly grabbed her upper arms before he reached forward to softly kiss her cheek. His eyes traveled all over her when he backed away and he had to smirk at the slight pink that occurred on her cheeks.

If she didn't know better she would've guessed that her heart was jumping out of her chest. Her hands became sweaty and the warmth on her cheeks wasn't helping it. Finally, his gaze fell onto her lips and he closed the gap between them. It was a somewhat soft kiss. Passive but sensual. Likewise, he began pressing his body against her's as her hands went to his shoulders and neck. Their intimate moment was interrupted by a hesitant and insecure voice.

A servant had made her way through the windy night air. She apologized promptly, her view directed to the ground. The miserable girl was visibly embarrassed to disturb their moment.

"Your father is asking for you." She shortly uttered towards (Y/N), who nodded, thanking her.

"I should go." She talked to Ubbe, who peeked at her with this thoughtful frown again. Before she turned to leave, she pressed a kiss on his lips, cupping his face with a strong grip.

As he watched her take off he became certain that this wasn't over for him yet. She had him all intrigued and now there was no turning back and he was sure that it also was what the gods wanted. Inwardly he gave it his deepest prayer.

Was that a dream?

Pairing: (Vikings) Ubbe Ragnarsson x Reader, intended to be romantic

Warnings: None 🫶

Summary: After the first snowfall in Kattegat, you and the sons of Ragnar manage to take time out of your day to have a snowball fight.

Add. Notes: Hello there, I am participating in @vikingsevents 's Winter Solstice Event with the prompt "Snow!" The story is taking place before Ragnar's return is season 4. Also, I will start referring to the reader with 'You,' 'Y/N,' and 'they' terms by default. Looking forward to the holidays!

Masterlist ✧⁠*⁠。

It had snowed a lot the night before. The few dismayed people who were unprepared for the snowfall had to work arduously the next day. While these people were working their arses off, Hvitserk was sitting in the great hall in front of a fire with Sigurd, Aslaug, and a few other people unfamiliar to the third oldest.

"I've lost track of time. Has the snow come early this year?" Aslaug quickly responded to Hvitserk's question; "No, in fact, it has come late this year. It was and still is cold as it usually is during this time of the year, though." Hvitserk contemplated on what to do with that information, until Björn and Ubbe came inside with wood for the fire.

The two eldest threw the wood into the pile of other burning materials, and Ubbe half-jokingly asked Björn, Hvitserk, and Sigurd if they wanted to go near Floki's place to play in the snow. The brothers complained about the cold but still accepted; every single one of them plotted to snow-sneak-attack the others.

The brothers thought for a second if they should find Ivar and Y/N to bring them along. Aslaug was the one to answer that, telling them that they should, for it would be unfair to leave the two out from the fun. The inconvenience of Ivar's brittle bones didn't come to mind to any of the Ragnarssons, so they listened to her with an objection from Sigurd and went looking for Ivar and Y/N.

Ivar and Y/N were sitting at the docks, wondering what happens to all of the fish trapped under the ice. Hvitserk was the first one to notice the two of you and scared the life out of you both by yelling 'fish' from behind. Ivar barked at Hvitserk on how he almost would've pulled out his dagger and stabbed him. The rest of the brothers ignored what Ivar said and offered you and him to go out of Kattegat to play in the snow.

Ivar scoffed at the offer, claiming that it was childish and that he wouldn't be able to do much in the snow anyway because of his disability. The other Ragnarssons remembered his problem at that very moment, and all they could say was that they won't take him with them if he doesn't want to come.

Then they turned to you, hoping that at least you will join them. You accepted the silly offer, but you felt guilty for leaving Ivar alone. You told the brittle-boned man that the two of you will continue the conversation after you return with the brothers. Sigurd blew a raspberry at Ivar as you were walking away with the rest of the Ragnarssons.

When you arrived at the place where you intended to play with the snow, it was midday and the sun was still covered by the clouds, making the sky look white and grey at the same time. The area was surrounded by pine trees and bushes covered in snow, along with piles of more snow. It was the perfect place to have a snowball fight.

Since you nor the brothers had done such childish things in years, you simply stood there for a brief while, trying to figure out what you should do now that you were there.

You were the first one to get moving; you ran to one of the snow piles and grabbed a handful of snow to form a snowball. You chose Björn as your first victim. You threw the snowball at him, and it hit him right on his forehead.

You and the rest of the brothers scattered in a laughing fit, because Björn's face was red and covered in snow. None of you were going to wait for him to throw the next snowball. Ubbe was the next one to throw, this time the victim being Sigurd's shoulder. The latter let out a yelp of surprise from the cold snowball as his clothes absorbed the snowball's water.

Björn pulled out two snowballs and sent one in your direction and the other in Hvitserk's. He, fortunately, missed on your part, but Hvitserk wasn't as lucky. Oh dismayed was he, for the snowball hit the nape of his neck and slipped under his clothes right after. The snowball fight went on in such a state for a brief while, until most of the brothers were soaked from the melting snow.

Ubbe and you were the last ones standing and decided to temporarily stop to escort the rest of the Ragnarssons to Floki's home. The boat builder along with Helga were excited to see them, for they hadn't visited in quite a while. As you and Ubbe left to continue, you saw Floki taking out blankets for the shivering brothers as Helga was finishing soup that she was making when they arrived.

Ubbe and you hurriedly ran back to the 'snow arena' so you could finish the snowball fight and join his brothers in Floki's and Helga's cabin. You and the second eldest went to separate piles of snow and both of you started forming snowballs and throwing them at each other with your red-from-the-cold hands.

Once Ubbe ran out of snowballs, he began sprinting in your direction. Mild panic took over you, and you barely moved from your spot until Ubbe tackled you to the snow-covered ground, laughing in the process.

Yours and Ubbe's faces were cold from the climate around you, but yours turned hot from how close Ubbe and you physically were. He seemed to have words on the tip of his tongue, the kind that you were not certain if you wanted to hear.

He properly wrapped his arms around you. The snow below you was seeping through your clothing and you felt the snow's cold in your bones, but you didn't want to ask Ubbe to let go of you. You were waiting for him to say the collection of words he appeared to have the urge to tell you.

When he finally said something which probably was what he wanted to say, you almost missed what he had said. He had, barely above a whisper, told you "I love you."

You were frozen in place, unsure if you should respond in the same manner. Ubbe in return moved a bit up, so Ubbe's and yours noses almost touched. He lightly tilted his face upwards and gave a soft peck on your nose. Both of you grinned like the happiest, the most innocent children the world could see.

The snowball fight was still ongoing, apparently. Ubbe grabbed a fistful of snow from the ground next to you and showed it into your hair, before saying "I win." You could only respond with "Let's head back to everyone else before my flesh becomes one with the snow."

Ubbe helped your soaked self up from the ground and the two of you started going back to Floki's warm house as fast as you could before the cold earth would reclaim you both.

Before you knew it, you were sitting with most of the Ragnarssons around a fire made by Floki. You had finally dried up and now we're eating a small portion of hot stew made by Helga. Ubbe was sitting next to you, having a conversation with Hvitserk on the topic of women.

Sigurd got up from his place and mentioned going back to Kattegat to have dinner with Aslaug in the great hall. You and the others had agreed and now were giving the furs and leftover stew back to your hosts before saying goodbye to them.

Yours and Ivar's conversation on how the world worked continued after the dinner in the great hall. Ubbe wasn't listening anymore for a while now, sleeping on your side with his head on your shoulder. Currently, you were pondering on the structure of stars with the cripple.

"What do you think the stars are made of?"

"I don't think I'll ever be ready to answer that question. Whatever the Sun is made of, I suppose."

"Everybody can say that, but what do you think?"

"Lightning. The heat of the Sun. Perhaps even ice, since all of them seem blue."

You were fortunate to sit near the door taking you outside because Ivar was trying to point at one of the stars in the night sky. You didn't want to wake up Ubbe by moving away from him.

Soon enough, you and Ivar became too tired to carry on your conversation. It was time to wake up Ubbe against your will; there was no way you were going to carry him to his room. He was a bit clumsy in his dazed state, but you managed to escort him back to his bed. You whispered a response to his confession from earlier, and quietly left his room.

Ubbe woke up the next morning confused, trying to recall how he got to his room when he thought he fell asleep next to you in the great hall. For a brief moment, he thought that everything that happened yesterday was a dream. But then Aslaug knocked on his door and came inside, and asked him about how the snowball fight with his brothers went. He simply told her that they had fun, but they spent half of the time drying up in Floki's cabin. He left out the detail in which he confessed to you; she didn't need to know that.

Ohhh I liked writing this. I used to live in an area where it snowed a lot in the winter season. But now, I've moved and live in a place where the last time it snowed was 40 years ago. I miss snow tbh :[

New Vikings Multi-One Shot Coming ft. All the Ragnarssons (ex. Bjorn)!!

So, I've decided to work on an idea that I've been wanting to work on for a while now because it's the only thing that's motivating me to write at the moment.

It is based on a song that I will link below for you guys to listen to and get excited about it.

Hopefully you guys will get where I was to go with it. It will include all the boys, excluding Bjorn, and I will try and make it so that you can read each part as a single one-shot.

I can't really explain it all now, but hopefully you guys will enjoy it and have fun with it!

Anyway, just thought I'd give you guys an update and psych you up for something interesting.

A/N: This is a sort of rewrite of a story I posted a few months ago. There will be a part two You know me, I'm terrible at writing parts and holding them.

Making a dress from a large piece of fabric is fun, at least at first, but of all the activities that were available to you, spending time with your brothers was by far your favorite. So, after spending a great part of the morning with your mother, you decided to join your brother near the fjord.

As a princess, everyone in Kattegat knew your face, everyone knew not to look for you without triggering the wrath of your mother, your brothers, and some people so close to your family that most inhabitants thought they were part of it.

To walk through the market was to receive smiles, greetings, sometimes apples. You loved the market, especially touching the animal skins on the trapper's stall, rubbing the hair of a rabbit's skin against your cheek. You walked for a little while before arriving at your brothers' favorite fishing spot. As usual, Ivar was alone, sitting on the warm sand, his eyes fixed on Ubbe, Hvitserk, and Sigurd fishing, or at least trying to.

You didn't want to get wet so you just sat with your brother without looking at him, knowing that he couldn't stand being stared at.

"You know, fishing isn't the most fun thing in the world, even swimming, when you go back to the sand you get covered in it and you stick."

You wanted to be nice to him, probably out of pity. Like your mother, you were devoted to Ivar, you listened to him without ever passing judgment, to you he was no different. You closed your eyes, your face warmed by the sun, and stood there silently for several minutes before being disturbed by drops of water thrown on your face by Hvitserk returning from his fishing trip.

Your brothers lay down on the sand and you took advantage of this moment to change position, preferring Ubbe's company. Your head resting against his chest you could hear the beating of his heart, so regular that it managed to calm you every time. Although you were taking care of Ivar, Ubbe was the one taking care of you. When you had nightmares or simply didn't feel well, Ubbe used to hold you in his arms, your ear against his rib cage, following his heartbeat just as your breathing followed his and allowed you to calm down within minutes.

You weren't listening to their conversation, you were physically there but your mind was elsewhere. Mentally exploring the world as your father had done years before and as Bjorn and Hvitserk would do in the weeks to come. You were far too young to get to know Ragnar or even to remember his face when people told you stories about him. In the fifteen short years of your existence, Bjorn and Ubbe had to take on the role of father more times than the real one.

"What did he tell you?" you asked without realizing that you had just cut Ivar off.

"That he wanted to spend a little time with Margrethe" Ubbe answered not sure who you were speaking about. Hearing it, you raised yourself a bit, frowning before giggling.

"You're telling me Ragnar came back ten years after only to spend time with Margrethe? How does he even know her?"

Ubbe and Sigurd sighed every few seconds before Hvitserk threw sand at you to shut you up. Ivar turned to Ubbe, and in a slightly more serious tone than yours, he asked Ubbe your question again.

You had just found an excellent subject for a quarrel between Sigurd and Ivar, unintentionally of course, but your two older brothers were taking things too much to heart.

All of you stayed there for a huge part of the afternoon until Ubbe told you it was time to go home and that your mother would probably be worried that she hadn't seen you for so long. The day had fallen relatively quickly while you were listening to the argument. Their bickering was becoming more and more habitual, and you knew, as did Ubbe and Hvitserk, that time often makes things better, except they always found a way to get their argument going again.

You were, as your mother, what the people of your culture commonly call a Völva, a spákona, the gods allowed you to see the future of certain people in your dreams, often resulting in awful nightmares. This night was one of them, Your first visions came relatively early, and your mother didn't realize it until one of your prophecies came true just a few days after you said it. That night you had a violent nightmare that caused you to wake up drenched in sweat and screaming so softly that no one could hear you.

When you couldn't manage your visions, you turned to Ivar. Seeing it more as a burden than a gift, your relationship was built around your disabilities. But that night, Ivar was with Margrethe. However, you managed to find Ubbe, asleep on one of the thrones, in the Great Hall. It was out of the question to wake him up, but you still needed contact, so you climbed onto his lap, rested your head against his shoulder, and closed your eyes when you felt his protective arm around you.

When you woke up, you were still on Ubbe's lap. The sun had not yet risen and silence was the only master in the room, and the shadows still danced on the walls as the fire was about to die down. You smiled as you saw the peaceful face of your sleeping brother, even though it was too early to go out into the streets of Kattegat, your nightmare was still plaguing your thoughts so you decided to go for a walk. You grabbed your cloak before plunging into the deserted and shadowy streets of Kattegat, sitting on a wooden box on the docks, admiring the sunrise and its reflections on the water.

Later that day, you sat down around the table. Your unusual silence intrigued Ivar who asked you a little brutally what was wrong with you. As you looked up, you noticed that everyone sitting around the table had their eyes on you. Your mother, Ubbe and Sigurd looked a little worried, Ivar looked upset while Hvitserk continued to eat, just gawking at the others. You claimed that everything was fine, but this answer did not convince the youngest of your older brothers.

Ivar hated being lied to, and you knew that better than anyone, given all the times you had tried. After jumping at the sound of Ivar pounding his fist on the table, you finally admitted that you had had a nightmare and that you were worried about the proportions that it could take. Your mother, knowing the risks of these visions, was always the most worried when you revealed a prophecy. Your brothers, on the other hand, often mistook your words for childish nonsense.

With all possible restraint, you told what you had seen, omitting certain details, speaking of a battle and a most bloody event.

"Don't worry, you are too young to be on a battlefield. And if it should happen, we will know how to protect you." Sigurd stated before Ivar sneered.

You had deliberately forgotten to give the names of the protagonists of your dream, so hearing Sigurd explain to you that everything would be fine, that nothing would ever happen to you as long as they were all there, broke your heart. You would have liked to tell them everything from beginning to end, to tell them to be careful and to stop playing the fool just to make yourself look good. But that would have had a negative effect. Only Odin had managed to change his fate, and he paid for it with his eye. The prophecies were a heavy burden to carry.

While you were in your thoughts, looking for a way to avoid the questions, the discussion suddenly changed direction. Harbard was now the only topic around the table and the subject of a new argument between Sigurd and Ivar. The discussion ended with Sigurd walking away from the table, knocking over his chair as Ivar yelled at him. The sound of the chair falling to the ground brought you out of your thoughts and, without really knowing why, you followed Sigurd into the forest.

You didn't even try to be discreet, you ran after him and when he had stopped to ask you why you were following him, you simply walked up to him before taking him in your arms. As far as you could remember, you had never hugged him, it was always your mother or Ubbe. Sigurd wrapped his arms around you without knowing the reason for this sudden attention but, at the same time, he felt relieved and almost proud to know that for the first time you had taken his side.

Against the fabric of his shirt, you held him close.

"Promise me you'll never leave." you whispered against the fabric of his shirt. Your brother frowned and then tried to reassure you that leaving Kattegat was not in his plans.

Your relationship with Sigurd has always been more or less complicated. You were the last of the family, looked after by your mother, protected by Ubbe, you almost always played only with Ivar, you were not close to Sigurd. Nobody was close to Sigurd. He was like a stranger but, for one afternoon, you wanted to change that. Together, sitting on an overturned tree trunk, you discussed his interests, music, hunting. You listened to him like you never had before. Discovering little by little the treasure hidden behind the carapace forged since Ivar's birth.

Your discussion was so passionate and natural that neither of you noticed that the sun was setting and you had to return following the sound of Bjorn's allies making their way to the Skali. Your hand in Sigurd's, you couldn't help but laugh every time you, or he, tripped over something. You quickly joined your mother, sitting on her throne while Ivar, jealous of your sudden relationship with Sigurd, frowned as you approached.

During the party, you forced yourself to participate, dance, drink, and talking with a few guests. When Lagertha arrived, you were the second, after Bjorn, to greet her, bringing her a drink before welcoming her to Kattegat. Your attitude was not wrong, Lagertha had never been unkind to you and you admired her more than anything else.

You ended up joining your brothers who were in the company of two strangers

"And it seemed to me that I had a sister..."

You smiled as Bjorn joked about you before sneaking up behind him.

"I think so."

As usual, you wore a charming smile as your older brother introduced you. Most courteously and warmly possible, you wished them a good evening before the older of the two, introduced by Bjorn as King Harald, pointed out how much you looked like your mother. They eventually walked away, greeting old friends, and you settled in across from Hvitserk, daring him to have several drinks and still be able to stand.

the end of an era

summary : set during the last battle between the vikings and the english ( so6eo20 ), hvitserk must protect his only sister.

warnings : canon typical violence, spoilers, death

hvitserk was not afraid. he’d fought enough people to know that one wasn’t doomed the second a fight began to go south. he took the tossing almost like a duck to water, only doubling over for a fraction of a second. had he perhaps been newer to this, the sight he saw before him would have most likely resulted in his death. he was petrified, rightly so, but his experience allowed him to exploit this fear, to make it beneficial. y/n’s tiny frame was splayed on the battlefield. the ruby cloak her brothers had made her wear so that they could easily identify her, specifically whilst at camp - in case something went wrong, was now almost completely covered by mud. her face was also covered in the slop. she appeared to have a cut across her cheek, though hvitserk couldn’t tell if the blood was her own. there wasn’t enough time for that if he was going to save her. y/n’s protector threw his new opposer off of him, giving him just enough time to pick up his sword. he struck, pushed, slit, stabbed with a newfound rage. how dare the gods decide to lead y/n into the midst of battle? and yet, thank the gods for bringing her to him so she could at least have a chance. their eyes met briefly as she began to drag herself through the mud, closer to her brother. before hvitserk could check the full extent of her injuries, his attention was pulled away to a man running towards his sister. he aimed and threw. the spear hit it’s target. she did not dare to look behind her, instead looking at the prints she’d made in the mud. had circumstances been different, hvitserk might have laughed at the fact that his most recent victim’s last words had been “the son of ragnar!” how pathetic. instead he turned, a new shout vying for his attention. this enemy, just as the last, went down quickly.

one gulp of air and he’d almost failed. a new threat had targeted his sister’s head, even the gods’ hearts shattered as she screamed and cowered. all was well though, y/n was under her brother’s protection. a clang sounded as the swipe was blocked. before the english soldier could comprehend what had happened, the viking knelt, pivoted and slashed, roughly pulling her to her feet so the soldier would not crush her. despite the rising shame punishing him for treating his sister like a rag doll, he almost immediately pushed her to the ground, resulting in a tiny yelp. another soldier came forward, and then another. it appeared these two had formed a duo to overpower him but these efforts were fruitless. finally came a time for a break. hvitserk fell purposely and reached an arm out to y/n, who stood momentarily so she could leap into his arms. she clung to her brother’s neck tightly as he tried to clean her face, only managing to smudge the mess, apologised profusely and asked a million questions. this tender reunion was, unfortunately, short lived.

ivar’s time was coming to an end. “stay here.” hvitserk ordered, as he gently pushed her away. y/n watched as the two met each other in the middle of the chaos, but she couldn’t clearly make out what was being said. to y/n, they were silenced by shouts of passion and screams of pain. prayers to both christian and norse gods. ivar, though he’d never actually hurt or tormented her personally, frightened y/n. had the choice been hers, hvitserk would’ve never left ubbe’s side. perhaps ubbe did treat the former like a dog, but at least he had never killed those hvitserk loved. her blue eyed brother met her eyes, he smiled but it didn’t reach his eyes. she reached an arm out towards him despite knowing very well he could not reach. he pressed his lips together. ‘twas the perfect visual metaphor for their relationship, close but so far. the fear he sparked within her did not mean she didn’t love him, or that she wanted him to perish. he was part of the reason she’d left the camp in the first place. she had expected ivar to do this; she wanted to see him in his last moments, and she didn’t want poor hvitserk to be alone. speaking of, whilst in her trance, hvitserk had been pushed back. he was now hovering over her, like a bear would hover over its cub. the two of them watched as ivar shouted and shared others’ victories. “you are ivar, son of ragnar lothbrok, and many there are that fear you.” hvitserk’s words seemed to reignite a passion within ivar. he was scared. he wanted, no needed, validation and praise. “one day everyone will know of ivar the boneless.”
