This is by far the most WTF game I have ever played so far! By WTF I mean it in a most positive way! Seriously, this is one of the game that all gamers out there needs to get their hands on! The game was released in October 2014 and I am writing like 4 months later, I was absolutely caught up by other things in life and wasn't able to complete the game in time. So two days ago I started playing this game from my last checkpoint and beat in 3 hours. I am telling you whoever is reading my review, this game kick ass! Okay, this game has so many positive things I don't even know where to start. Let's start off with the character customization, this is one of the best and funniest customization I've ever seen, the game gives the player tons of choices to customize their character, you can look as badass as you can possibly can to a funny looking clown dress up in weird and random clothing running around the city killing ODs.
I took a photo of how my character looks like in game, it's absolutely hilarious! You have this big, muscular guy wearing pink underwear and tube top with pink pony tails running around in the city. It never gets better than that! HAHAHA. One thing that I didn't like during customization was that I wasn't able to change my name for some reason, so I was just a "player" in the game the entire time, I didn't know if it was because I missed the chance of naming my character in the first place or what, that's the one thing that I did not like about it.
The story itself is somehow believable, you have this major corporation who fu*ked up their product and started distributing drinks inside Sunset City and makes everyone becoming this mutated monsters called OD (Overcharge Drinkers). I mean, that sounds like your everyday apocalyptic zombie stories right? But then there are just so much humors added to the game that makes it truly colorful and fun to play. The gameplay is what makes this game really successful in my opinion, you are very agile and quick and fast paced. The game focused on agile combat systems and stylish at the same time. All the parkour, ziplines, rail grinding were absolutely amazing, I love it. The one thing that you should not do in this game is walking, walking like a normal person means you are playing the game wrong! Plus, I noticed that whenever I walk I tend to be a lot slower comparing to ziplining and rail grinding, which means I hate walking in this game. There were several times I tried to navigate around the city without my feet touching the ground, it was fantastic.
The weapons in this game are weird and beautiful, I was like, how can someone think of that?! That doesn't even makes sense! The weapons in this game reminded of Dead Rising 3 I was playing a while ago, where you can collect blue prints and craft weapons. My favorite gun in the game was the one that shoot fire crackers, I forgot what was the name of the weapon, so when you shoot and hit OD, there will be dragon flying out everywhere, it's amazing. Or even the weapon that keep shooting out records?! There's just so much work and thought put into the game I don't even know.
I like the characters including the bosses, each bosses has a proper introduction in the game which I truly appreciate that. There are just so many games that doesn't do that anymore. Whenever you tell a proper story and introduces the character, it makes each fight more meaningful and worthwhile. One of the boss I fought early in the game was at the samurai museum I believe, I forgot what was the name of the character, but he drank a can of overcharge drink and transformed himself into this giant flying dragon??? That was something, I loved how flawless and agile I was while fighting that boss, grind every rail you see, zip lining all the way to the bosses head, and bam! Slam into his head, the comic, or cartoon effect was beautiful, it somehow reminded a little bit of Japanese comic for a second, those over dramatic cut scenes, amazing. That funny captain with no arms and legs was pretty funny too, I was like how could you even walk like that? I was like carrying him back to safety, but it felt like I was carrying some sort of toys, like a talking plush toy.
I love the ending scene, at first after riding the soda and crashed into the building was crazy enough, the talking building was even crazier haha. I thought the boss fight would be somehow difficult and challenging like other bosses. But it was extremely easy, just running and chasing the building and more rail grinding until you reach the top and blow that brain out. And what do you do after beating the final boss? Party!! Man, this game was a blast! Definitely a 9.5/10.
