"Vanfro", we live in such a time, that people deeply admire old original artists, but don't emulate ANYTHING they actually stood for! Like working hard on your OWN style and flow. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of people who have inspired me, but I do not seek to be their clone. That's disgusting....so if you're doing that...you need to repent! Get your own swag! With that said, I decided to make that message more clearly with this piece. If you think about the title and study the art flow, you'll see that it's my own spin-off version of a Van-gogh style of work. I admire his unique flow and color patterns, but to me, it would be disrespectful to copy it completely. And my mother-in-law claims I don't make enough Afro centric artwork, plus, I finished it on my mother's birthday. So yeah, this is a pretty deep piece, hope you can relate. Diversity in our hobby is just a couple paint colors away

And some patience of course. 

Its a small thing to make your miniatures and characters diverse, an easy thing to do to be honest, but it can make a big difference. Especially when you are playing and painting in a public shop. Its one thing if 100% of your models are covered in armor, but its another thing if your entire force is painted the same. Its important to make a hobby environment welcome for everyone, and when a person of color and/or woman walks into a game shop and sees nothing but white men on book covers and box art, and sees white men painting miniature white men, the hobby looks like its not for them. There is an easy way to fix this, all you need to do is add some variety!

I generally use reaper paints most of the time. Reaper has a solid set of skin tones, shades, and highlights for each tone. I find that you don't even really need the shades or highlights if you don't mind using a wash to create shade, and mixing your paint with the next level paler to create the highlights. In this case I'm using these 3 colors to create some diverse skin tones, but I occasionally use Creamy Ivory as a tone as well to create more of a far-eastern look.

And here are some finished models near the un-finished counterparts of the same skin tone. Its quite stunning when you've got a whole squad that's a variety of skin tones, looking forward to showing it off when its complete!
