That is a BAD name
What gender is your Gallade character Spoon?
Sorry if I’m answering this ridiculously late! I’m really bad at checking my inbox and message notifications don’t always seem to show up for me, so I’m not sure when this came in.
The answer to this is actually more complicated than it should be.
Spoon doesn’t have a strong sense of gender identity and is honestly pretty confused and uncomfortable about the whole thing.
Part of that comes from the fact that they were raised by a clan of Bronzong that didn’t really have gender as a concept in their society.
I wouldn’t go as far as to call them a hive mind or anything, but their society was very strongly focused on the collective over the individual, and strove to be “in-sync” with the Clan through their psychic resonance.
The Bronzong language is made up of various energy waves, which ranges from long, bell-like notes to psychic “Extrasensory” waves that would be incredibly difficult to interpret by non-psychics outside of giving them a massive headache. They have no equivalent of a “singular” first-person or third-person pronoun, as they refer to both the individual and the piece of the greater whole they carry with them.
Spoon likes being addressed with they/them/their pronouns because it’s the closest equivalent of the way of referring to them used in the Bronzong language. Spoon also often uses “we” when speaking in first person. They try to adjust and use “I” sometimes, but have difficulty with it.
Spoon gets addressed with “he” a lot because of their species, which they’re kind of “meh” about. Not to the extent where it actively upsets them, and they kind of understood going into evolution that it would happen - it’s just kind of weird to them. They feel similar about she/her on the rare occasion they are addressed that way.
Blu, incidentally, has taken to using “I” for themself without issue, and doesn’t particularly care about whatever pronouns or gendered terms are used to refer to them. I mostly use “they” as well, but I think Blu would think it’s pretty neat when people call them he or she or anything else, because they’re just kind of fascinated by the whole thing.
I do think Spoon would wind up falling somewhere in the non-binary range even if they were raised in a gendered society - I don’t want it to come across like the only reason they’re nonbinary is because they were raised by Bronzong - but in this case their upbringing has influenced a lot of the way they see themselves so I felt the need to explain it in context.
(I know I’ve had Spoon use singular language or he/him pronouns in previous posts/comics/drawings, it’s admittedly something I’ve kind of retconned as I’ve thought more about Spoon and Blu’s identities as characters, their different relationships to the Bronzong clan and how they would have grown up.)
Thanks for asking!
I joined a Discord pokemon themed roleplay group. In the group they’re normal Pokemon, but the gijinkas of these two I had were outdated and I got an urge to redesign them.
I’m horribly inconsistent with Blu and Spoon’s size ratio... Spoon is supposed to be shorter and chubbier than the average Gallade but I’ve drawn them too tall and thin in some pictures. And I haven’t taken into consideration as much how Blu would scale up against most Bronzong. I guess they’re supposed to be smaller as well.
Also they cuddle sometimes. Blu levitates down to the ground and Spoon lies against them. (Bronzong aren’t the most comfortable snuggle buddies, but Spoon does not care. Spoon can sleep anywhere. Also while they have a cold metallic body, Bronzong can warm themselves up with energy. It makes a low resonant sound that’s kind of comforting.) Don’t go underneath/inside a Bronzong’s bell though, that is most uncomfortable! They are hollow in there but that’s where all their energy and mind waves kinda bounce around invisibly. They can still function if it’s disrupted but it’s kinda like getting a bad headache.
Rainee Day Nuzlocke update I have (FINALLY) finished fighting the Elite Four and Cynthia My friend watched and recorded everything that went down with some interesting commentary
As for how it went and who made it and who didn't:
And afdadsf I just nearly lost a pokemon because I wasn't paying attention while facing a wild graveller and accidentally hit the wrong move so I didn't ohko it and it exploded.............
that would have been unfortunate...

Also Nuzlocke stuff
- There's kinda this circle of really ancient Bronzong in Mt Coronet who sort of resonate together and foretell ~magical prophecies~ and stuff
- They're aware of the distortion world and can kind of see into it but can't fully "open" a portal like the ones at Spear Pillar and turnback cave
- They can distort things enough to control the climate to a certain extent (?) (I'm going be the pokedex entry here) It's not like major legendary shit but working together they are the ones to make the fog inside the mountain and stuff.
- They kinda figure out someone's going to try to destroy the world and stuff is out of balance but they're all old and rusty n' stuff and can't really move around.
- There are a lot of younger Bronzor who came into being among the circle though and are kind of "in training" to eventually become part of their magical psychic prophecy cloud thing. There are also other psychic pokemon who have learned their language and kind of work for them as messengers or run errands
- Blu is kind of a "chosen one". They foretell that Blu will have some involvement in the destruction or saving of the world depending on how the scales are tipped but aren't sure how how to handle it. They can basically see vague ideas down different timelines but don't know if doing this that or the next thing with Blu will lead to destruction or not. They decide to just train Blu figuring that the more Blu knows, the better, but Blu kinda doesn't.. really like the idea of sitting around and effectively doing nothing and is basically like "if the world is in danger now, I'm better off actively doing something"
- Blu initially tries to go to Spear Pillar but with wild pokemon gangs and the occasional trainer throughout the mountain, realizes they're not strong enough and struggle back down. They eventually leave pretty beaten and worn down and that's when they finally approach Rainee.
- Spoon was one of the psychic pokemon who lives among the Bronzong and was very close to Blu. Spoon was actually sent after Blu to bring them back and effectively stalks the group for a while before finally joining.
- Spoon is in love with Blu, or at least some kind of deep-psychic-bond equivalent. Blu returns their feelings but also feels somewhat uncomfortable about it because Spoon kinda sees themself as "inferior" to the Bronzong and sometimes acts like they exist to serve and protect Blu which is kinda... come on Blu is a friggen wall and can take care of themselves tyvm
- Blu can communicate with humans and other pokemon with a telepathic voice, but their native language is that of the Bronzong which consists of sorta psychic ringing noises. Blu and Spoon both have sort of musical voices, enunciate very clearly and speak with a slight accent
- Blu had a different birth name in the Bronzong language. No, the ancient mystical Bronzong prophecy circle did not name their child "Blu-Ray". Shocker, I know.
