A Ghost Treading Water
The ripple spreads across the clear sheen of the pond, a reflection between worlds. One looks at themselves, with the reassurance that there is a reflection of themselves. But there is one being whom does not exist within that reflection, that no matter what they do, the cannot disturb the water. They aren’t able to. They can’t even see their own reflection. They wander around, un-acknowledged by the people around them. Others can see the ghost, but don’t bother them. Not even in the slightest. Sometimes, it’s a wonderful feeling, the feeling of being alone at peace. Other times, it's a horrible feeling, the feeling of being alone and lonely. Doesn’t matter though. Because no one cares enough. And no one can see you move the water, nor can they see you through the water. It’s such a terrible feeling, not being able to know what water feels like, even when its raining. So the ghost sits by the pond, wondering how it would look on that puddle. Someone passes by and places an umbrella under the ghost. The ghost turns around without saying anything. The person then says… “its better to have some cover than to feel the cold.” Feel the cold the ghost did. But… under the umbrella, the ghost was no more. Filled with a temporary comfort, the person touch the puddle, distorting the reflection they saw with a single ripple. “ It is better to have some cover than to feel the cold...but”...the ghost always felt the cold, always felt the rain...just never noticed until they felt some warmth under the company of the umbrella.
