at 63k words, the first draft of witch machines is done!!!
made the very sexy decision to remove all pronouns referring to Ketto, resulting in sentences such as “Perhaps you could. While Ketto couldn’t say where it is off the top of Ketto’s head, Ketto does know where Ketto could find out.”
I hope it's as annoying to read as it was to write <3
Drawing of the day: an adequately wet looking Zirria
It's Heffy! Here she is pretending to find a ring on the ground in order to scam someone (she is too nice to actually succeed)
Introducing
Tussiko
another character in my still untitled novel. The coolest and most interesting things about Tussiko are as follows:
She is an anthropomorphic robber fly. She's as hairy and fucked up looking as you're imagining
I haven't settled on a height but she's 6'5" to 7' tall
She only kind of wears clothes. Like she just throws on one piece of clothing to give the impression of being dressed. I'm still working out how she would wear shitty band shirts
Has been running scams for a living for years. She's had a lot of success with pyramid schemes
Became friends with Zirria when their homes/families were wiped out in a flood
Drives a beloved and exceptionally shitty car that has pieces cut out of it so she can fit inside it
Pronouns are she/her
here's a completely contextless snippet from my writing project, in which Zirria has the worst sleepover
The room was barely big enough for one person, never mind three. Deryn offered the bed to Heffy, since he was first in the room and that meant he had to make these decisions, but she pointed out that it might be more sensible for the tallest to have the bed to make more room on the floor for the others, which was Zirria. She neglected to mention that this would also keep Zirria and Deryn away from each other to some extent. After some shuffling, Heffy and Deryn settled on the floor and Zirria on the bed. The two on the floor chatted as Zirria read a book. After a while, Zirria slotted the book onto the windowsill.
“I’m going to sleep now. And so are you,” he said.
“Okay, night!”
“Night!”
Zirria turned the buzzing electric lamp above the bed off. The silence lasted for a couple of minutes.
“Heffy, would I look good with a tattoo?” Deryn said.
“Yeah.”
“What should I get?”
“You should get a—a snake.”
“Oh fuck yeah.”
Zirria groaned.
“Sorry,” Heffy whispered. Deryn giggled.
Zirria was almost asleep when Heffy squealed, jolting him awake.
“Oh, it was just Deryn kicking me,” she said.
“Sorry,” Deryn said.
Zirria pressed his hands against his eyes. “Please just go to sleep.”
Introducing
Zirria
Who is another secondary character in my NaNoWriMo project. This is what I know about Zirria so far:
Is an esfa like Deryn
Works at Midnight Oil, the inn where Heffy and Deryn also end up working. Zirria has worked there the longest
Has lived in the same town his whole life
Is kind of a dick
He fucking hates his job
Has a tragic backstory where he was orphaned by a natural disaster or something
Has a talent for origami. Usually by peeling layers of beer mats and folding them into stuff. To cope
When Deryn and Heffy ditch Midnight Oil for adventure he goes along too
Mostly because he hates his job more than he hates Deryn
Pronouns are he/him
