It is a way of assuming that everyone wants what you want and feels what you feel. This way of thinking ignores different love languages, cultures, experiences, and ways of seeing the world. Instead of teaching, "The Golden Rule," I teach my students, THE PLATINUM RULE IS more thoughtful and considerate than "The Golden Rule." The Platinum Rule is to "TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY THEY WANT TO BE TREATED" or to "Do unto others as they would want done unto them." The reality is that how I want to be treated and how you want to be treated could be completely different things...and it's actually beautiful. *** The concept of the Platinum Rule was originally coined by communications researcher, Milton Bennett, in 1979.
