So... My language is literally Arabic and I can't understand what the name "Minajael" they give him means. what? Ha? I'm lost. Not mad or anything just confused lol

Kalim literally means (generous) in Arabic and it was easy to read. That's a normal name used here for males a lot. But to be fair in my country people usually write it and pronounce it as "Kareem" but I think it was hard to pronounce in Japanese and that's why they wrote it like that maybe just my guess.

Jamil means (Beautiful) in Arabic and it's also a normal male name.

Minajael? It actually has no meaning in Arabic not a known one at least it feels completely made up. Or maybe it's a name from another language?

I'm trying to find out if they were trying to go for a real Arabic name that they completely mispronounced and miswrote... The closest thing the name sounds like is the The plural of "sickle" which is pronounced "Manajel" in Arabic you can see it's close to how "Minajael" is written. If that's actually the case I'm confused why they named him after the agricultural tools used in cropping harvest... But like we have Fellow Honest and twst is weird with names like a lot of names sounds like a pun so who knows maybe that's what they were going for.

About Kalim's name, I think it's written that way to align with Japanese pronunciation. I noticed in the English dub of the anime that his name is pronounced closer to the Arabic way (ie "KalEEm" instead of "Kalim"). The r/l mix-up is because Japanese doesn't have a strict r/l phoneme, so translating any word from Japanese with that sound into another language can be either or. Twst just happened to officialize the version with l and not r.

After looking at Minajael's name backwards, forwards, and sideways, I've come to the conclusion that his name isn't meant to have a specific meaning or be an irl Arabic name in the same way that Kalim and Jamil are. From what I've gathered, "Minajael" is taking the "min(a)" part from Jasmine and potentially also the ja- from Jasmine, then combining it a common suffix for ending Arabic names. Thus... "Minajael". (The closest name I could find to it is "Minhajul", which I was told means something like "path of guidance". Not sure if that's Arabic though.) This is just my best guess; I don't have an understanding of these languages so I could be completely off-base.

Very strange that Kalim and Jamil have realistic Arabic names (well, excluding Jamil's surname), but Minajael gets something made up. It reads more like a fantasy name that's a mishmash of various roots rather than true to one culture or language??? Twst's names can be very strange sometimes... although they do tend to blend multiple cultures to form their own, so it's not like they're claiming to accurately depict "Arabia or the middle east, but with magic".

I'm not sure if this reading makes sense (no idea what thi- means), so I'll put it up and allow the Arabic speakers to evaluate it. I would think that they would just make his surname "Al-Rajah" if they wanted to convey he's from the ruling house/family of the Scalding Sands. The “rajah” may also be a reference to the name of Jasmine’s pet tiger.

(Note: I think "Al" just means "the" in irl Arabic, but Twst explains it as “son”:)

If it's a misspelling, it certainly wouldn't be Twst's only time. (Here's an example.) A certain amount of grace should be granted to the devs, as translating words from one language to another isn't an easy feat. However, they have the resources and backing of Disney and Aniplex, so surely if they wanted to be more accurate then they could have found a way to.
