I should also mention that just as Johnny has a unique "Respect Quote" Compliment (Forward+Taunt button) for every character in the game (including himself!), Baiken's "Taunt Quote" (Neutral Taunt Button) gives a personalized Insult to EVERY character in the game, even insulting her 'fake' in Mirror fights!
I think I'll wait to translate anything related to that though, as you never know if we'll get a dub later. One can still hope. Plus System Voices to look forward to!
Hey guys, been a while... just enjoying the Holidays and trying to stay warm.
Spring 2016 will be here with Revelator before you know it!
Still, I thought I'd make a point of mentioning yet another personal rule in how I play fighting games (besides the 5/9 round settings).
Never openly tell other players they suck.
It's one thing to Taunt a player in-game for their lack of skill, as this results in extra Tension or a "Rakusyo".
But it's another to Taunt them with personal attacks... which is what this topic is about.
Rakusyo at the end of a round means "Easy Win", or another way of putting it: "You were too easy to beat."
By doing this after winning, you give your opponent 50% extra Tension at the start of the next round. In a way, you're giving them an opportunity to one-up you, or at the very least, giving them a chance to fight back even a little.
Guilty Gear is about spacing most of the time, so controlling that spacing with your Tension via Faultless Defense or even a Dead Angle, can help even beginners get some space against even an aggressive player.
In-game taunts are part of the rules of the game and are acceptable... plus they benefit the other player being Taunted in some way.
Also, Taunts cannot be cancelled unless they are Roman Cancelled... only Respects can be cancelled. But I prefer not to do so.... HOWEVER:
What ISN'T acceptable is taunting players in online chat or via audio mic conversation.
ESRB puts out a warning that they have no control over what people say online... and this is very true. You never know who is going to say what online.
Going around in to people's online Lobby rooms and bashing them for their lack of skill not only demoralizes them but takes all motivation out of learning the game and enjoying it as a fun experience.
It's even worse if you do this to a complete stranger.
So as a personal rule, I don't allow such rude talk in my rooms. If you do it... it's an automatic Kick from my room. No exceptions.
If you come back in and try to desparage people... Kick again and a potential Block or Grief Report on my end.
PSN allows such options on various players you've met, so if you feel like you're being harassed, don't hesitate to use it.
Everyone is a scrub beginner at some point... there's no getting around that. Even me. And I've been playing for years!
So having patience with other players, giving them opportunities to learn the game from the ground up, and even taking advantage of the Rakusyo system... even if it's a mild Taunt... is a means of benefitting new players.
In-game Taunting is one thing... but harassing players personally is something I do not tolerate, and no one else should either!
