Besides being an actor Ralph Cooper was also a writer, director, and producer. He was one of the founders of Million Dollar Productions which has been credited with advancing race films to the mainstream. He was a dancer and choreographer, choreographing the Shirley Temple film Poor Little Rich Girl. He seemed to enjoy giving a helping hand to up and coming entertainers often casting unheard of actresses in leading roles and creating the legendary ameatur night at the Apollo theater which he emceed until the 1990s. He also helped bring attention and success to singer and actress Betti Mays whom he later married.
