PSA: EVERYONE, YES EVEN YOU, CAN HACK NEW LEAF NOW
I made this video a looong time ago on how to use the RAM editor (now called the save editor, same site tho) to edit your ACNL town, and most of the video is still accurate except for the beginning where I talk about system requirements for dumping and injecting your save file. (Jump to 2:20 for the good stuff.)
For most hacking methods, you need firmware version 10.7 or older. If this applies to you, check out the instructions on this page for how you can set up your 3DS to hack ACNL.
If you have a newer version (or any version really), check out @pigeoncoffee‘s guides for using soundhax. This guide is for setting up your 3DS to hack ACNL and this guide is for actually getting your save file out to edit/ inserting it back into your game after it’s been edited.
