I think one of the hardest things about getting better is not feeling like the actions and steps you're taking to live a normal life are frivolous. I feel like I should be so scared and watch my back at every step, planning nothing because everything will change at the drop of a hat anyway. My nervous system says it's hell, but recovering means it's better for me to live in measured, purposeful intervals. To invest time in myself and the things I love and my future as if I will have a tomorrow, instead of wasting time away and trying to escape my the present existence.
