Not quite a character ask, but I was wondering what idea or thought spurred your pareidolia universe as a whole? :)
its a bit silly to think about bcs really the only reason pareidolia exists is that one day i decided to redesign my fursona at the time (adrian) into a mythological creature (basilisk) and then just wanted a silly universe for that version of him to exist in... and because i sort of wanted to evoke the nostalgic folklore tales feeling, it ended up being "vaguely late 1800s sweden where folkloric creatures exist", and then started making up more little Guys as i felt like it.
i grew up with a lot of swedish folklore illustrations/picture books obviously such as sven nordqvist's work (whose stories really aren't applicable to folklore but like, still has gnome-esque creature sillyness in it), elsa beskow, john bauer etc. prior to pareidolia i had another fantasy universe completely separate from that source of inspiration and i kinda lost interest for it after a while. like it was more typical dnd inspired fantasy (or, "inspired by things inspired by dnd") but i think something about a more low fantasy setting with cultural references that resonate with me and interesting history really clicked...
this sketch is actually the first sketch i ever made of a "cast" of characters alongside adrian at the time
adrian in this first version of pareidolia was the main character, but it really didn't have a very coherent narrative until arvo became that central point FDSKJFJKSD.
