as much as jasons robin run is fun there is this horrible sort of dread that comes with reading it because we see this sweet little kid grow up, truly start to come into his own as a hero, and he has so so much fun. he is so so loved.

we see him so happy and so fulfilled, and then we see as that gets taken away little by little again and again, and we see that sweet little kid get worse and worse. more jaded, more depressed, more self-destructive…and then that’s it—and then he dies. he never gets to get better.

its just always in the back of my head that one day this little boy will get sad, and he will never feel better. he’ll just die.

I love reverse robins AUs because the tiniest change could affect so many different things. Like, is it still Jason who dies, or Tim? If we're going with "the second Robin always dies no matter what" is it Steph who dies and becomes the Red Hood? Or does Steph take the place of Barbara and get shot by the Joker? Does Damian still die and get resurrected as well? Does Spyral happen? Does the Red Hood make his dramatic reappearance before or after Dick joins the family? What are the age gaps between everyone? Is it just the Robins that are reversed, or all the Batkids? Because if it's just the Robins then Bruce's first kid is Damian, but if all Batkids are included then the first one is actually Duke! At what point does Bruce get lost in time? Before or after Dick shows up? Do Tim's parents still die? Are the crime families a lot more powerful in Gotham by the time Dick comes along than they were in canon when Damian arrived because here Batman didn't put Tony Zucco away in the beginning of his career like he did in canon, and how does this affect the power dynamics with the assorted rogues? What kind of relationship do Damian and Bruce have, because a Bruce who was alone as Batman for about 10 years and then without warning got a child like Damian deposited on his doorstep with no parenting experience cannot have been the greatest father at first, I don't think. And so on. It's so much fun to think about.
