Theoretically, because there both machines and are communicating electronically, Metal and Sage could easily talk at the speed of light. (Or relatively close to it.)

There conversations would be over before Amy even knew what they were doing. Sage would appear, her and Metal would stare at each other for a few seconds at most, and it be over.

Well I def imagined Sage and Metal to just quietly stare at each other an awkward amount of time before Amy would interrupt.

How about powerful EMPs?

And for the sake of argument, let’s assume the EMPs would effect chaos drives (Or whatever Eggman’s robots run on) the same way they effect regular electronics.

I think non-nuclear EMPs would be much more viable since they could wipe out Eggman's forces pretty effectively.

There are a few considerations for the Mobian/islander leadership:

Are the EMPs well-hidden? Before an attack, could Eggman find the locations of the EMPs using satellites, hacking, or espionage? Is it possible for him to target the EMPs before attacking, thus neutralizing them? (This issue is why countries have nuclear submarines--they're much harder to target and can be used for second strikes).

Strategically speaking, possessing weapons capable of destroying his forces all in one go might lead to a bit of instability. If Mobians strike first, Eggman will have no way to retaliate. This will make striking first much more attractive to him, increasing the likelihood of him launching surprise attacks to get the upper-hand. This problem is why the US and USSR agreed to limit their ballistic missile defenses--if you deny your enemy the ability to perform a retaliatory strike, they are incentivized to strike first. It's safer to not protect yourself in some cases.

If the war is at home, what impact will EMPs have on the islands' ability to function? Is it worth it?
