Scene where Silvio realizes Oc never planned on belonging
It’s nighttime. Both Anastasia and Silvio are tired from the social banquet that they attended. It was hosted by the king but knowing of the king’s temperament when it comes to Silvio, he pinned all his responsibilities to the young couple. The King did fulfill his duties, along with his wife, yes... they greeted the guests and opened the ballroom with their first dance. The rest of the responsibilities, hosting, entertainment, were recklessly left for Silvio and his fiancée (as the royal couple retreated to their private chambers).
Both the prince and his betrothed returned to their shared room late, after making sure all the nobles left the premises. One of them was drunk, splayed on the couch, with her heels discarded at the foot of it. She had her head propped up on her hands, which were comfortably folded at the couch’s armrest. The other was completely sober, despite giving and accepting drinks all night. As a matter of fact, he had brought two more bottles inside their room, and was currently nursing his cup, bristling with rage.
“Damn him. That old fart is out of his mind if he expects me to take this farce lying down.” He downed the wine in one gulp. “If you’re too old to take care of your duties, just abdicate the throne already!!”
She heard him grumble more before her mind wondered. She asked him, “is it because of the queen?” Anastasia wasn’t exactly aware of the inside family affairs. But she knew that Silvio’s mother was the late queen, and the new queen used to be the king’s lover. She wondered if the current queen was using her powers to ‘bully’ the first two princes.
He pointed at her with his index finger, using the hand that held his wine cup. “Watch it.” His mere glare was enough for her to realize that she was completely off the mark. But she had spent enough time with him to realize that this was also his way of being kind. If she had said these words to anyone else, a sword would’ve claimed her neck. Maybe that’s why she allowed her mouth to run. Because she was with him? Or because of alcohol.
“It’s the King who calls the shots. It’s him, who has a problem with me.”
She looked at him for a while. She wondered if sharing about herself would make him feel better? Her tongue started working faster than her mind could catch up. “Well, I don’t have a place I ‘belong to’ either.” Truly, what a risky thing to say to your fiancée. “My biological father died early. His side of the family could’ve spit in my and his faces with how ill their nature is. Despite the love I share with my biological mother, I, technically, no longer have a place beside her. As for the duke’s family, I am an adopted daughter. I still don’t know how their kind of affection works. They engaged me to you, as well, didn’t they?” she paused. She wanted to laugh about how everyone had seemed to give her to another person, as if they were playing ‘hot potato’ and she was the burning responsibility. Somehow, she had ended up in Silvio’s lap.
But she didn’t want to make the atmosphere darker. “But I suppose they’ve all loved me, in a way...” now it sounded like she was bragging. Her drunk mind was unusually self-conscious and aware of her creeping embarrassment.
Her gaze at him was careful now. After a bit of thinking, she offered him a smile. “it’s fine, you have me now. Well,” she giggled lightly, quietly. “Until you break the engagement.”
She sounded awfully sure that it would happen. She knows she is a random shackle that the king put on Silvio, due to her father’s ‘accomplishments’ behind the scenes. She fully expects her fiancée to break off this engagement before it can develop into a marriage, the moment he has the appropriate power.
She would’ve expected him to laugh, scornfully, at least. But Silvio isn’t the type who takes these types of moments lightly. Even if it could be related to a person he doesn’t care much about.
He looked irritated. “Don’t speak lightly about the kings’ orders. Those damned things are absolute.” True, despite whatever he went through, he still knew the value of a monarch’s word. Still followed through despite the brisling and disappointment.
But for a moment he went still. And he looked back at her seriously. The shift of his position made the moonlight reflect in his already beautiful eyes, which stunned Anastasia more than his next words.
“Do you want me to break it off?”
It felt like an opening. And she was too stunned to even react. Those words replayed in her mind many times, but not as music. They didn’t feel pleasant. Instead, she could feel the distasteful taste of the bitter wine, which she had been forced to drink all night.
His question felt real. Like a promise. It made her think that he would put in effort to break off their engagement, if she were to answer ‘yes’.
She looked down and her smile grew. But not at the choice presented to her.
…She chuckled and relaxed herself against the cushions before looking back at him again. “Well… do you want me to love you?” she does not speak hypothetically about intimacy. She wouldn’t have dared to utter such a question if she hadn’t felt, at least, something for him. It was her way of deflecting. She didn’t dare say no, but she didn’t allow him to put all the responsibility on her tongue.
Silvio understands stakes better than anyone. This forces him to confront something that he is avoiding. Her question allows him a choice, from which he won’t be able to claim misunderstanding later. He won’t be able to say she trapped him emotionally. So, he looks away and thinks in this quiet, dark room. He doesn’t leave her question unanswered
But the writer doesn’t know what his answer is. Open ending? HAAHHAHAHAH
sure, its difficult to assume the ending if you don't know the ocs story but its fine! what do you guys thing Silvios response could be, in character?
