as soon as your eyes flicked up to his, you felt the air get knocked out of your lungs. his usually eyes, that held all the sparkles in the world were now just glassy and desperate, begging you for an explanation.
screwing your eyes shut, you shook your head. i have to end this for your sake.
"it's not you." you lied, forcing the corner of your lips up to smile at him. "it's a me problem. i just think i should work on myself because you deserve much better."
"no no no no." he begged, reaching out to hold your hands in his. please don't make this harder. "there's nothing wrong with you. you're perfect the way you are. so damn perfect. i would never change anything about you."
you wouldn't, but you are fated to die if you stay with me so i have to be the one to break your heart.
you removed your hands from his. "but i'm holding you back. i want you to be free."
"y/n." he choked, falling to his knees as more tears flowed. "you're the only one i have. the only one who truly loves me for me. please don't leave me. i love you so much."
your smile softened as tears pricked your eyes now too. "i- i love you too. loving you was like being near a star. but i guess... we were too close to the stars."
leaning down, you slowly brushed your lips against his forehead, and then stood up straight before he could pull you into a hug. he just stared at you, his expression like he his heart had been plucked out of his chest.
you quickly turned back and walked away, desperately trying ignore his choked sobs as he kept calling out your name over and over again. finally, unable to control yourself anymore, you turned back one last time.
