Ranginui
Also known as Rangi, the primordial sky father of the Māori. Together with the earth mother, Papatūānuku, they produced over 500 children. They embraced eachother so hard that their children were forced to live in the darkness between them, only rarely seeing sunlight. Several of the children including Tāne, Tangaroa, Tūmatauenga, Rongo, and Haumia-tiketike devise a plan, eventually forcing their parents apart and causing them immense grief. The god of storms, Tāwhirimātea, vows revenge on his siblings for forcing their parents apart, giving birth to many sons and waging war on the other siblings. To this day Rangi cries for Papa, raining his tears down onto her.
