February TBR
Judging by the amount of work I have to do at the moment and the fact that we are nearly a week into this month and I have managed to read less than 5 pages off this TBR I very highly doubt that I will finish this TBR but I’m going to give it a good go! At the end of last year I made a list of all the books that had been on my TBR for ages that I wanted to try and get to this year so this month I am attempting to make some inroads into that list this month. With seeing all the trailers for The Death Cure everywhere (which I still have not seen) I have been in a really Maze Runner-y mood at the moment so I thought to satisfy this I would pick up The Fever Code. It has been absolutely ages since I finished The Death Cure and, considering the fact that The Kill Order did not contain any of the characters from the original trilogy, I am super excited to catch up with all the characters again. The second book I hope to read this month is a continuation of The Miss Peregrine’s series which I honestly can’t remember when I last picked up so I think it is about time to get cracking with that series again.
Miss Peregrine
Astonish me by Maggie Shipstead
I grew up in competitive dance but was never fully consumed in the world of ballet. As someone who lived one foot in and one foot out, ballet is dark and fascinating, powerful and astonishing. Character development in this novel is on point (get it?) and while the story is slightly far-fetched, it is entrancing and fluid. Worth reading for the dance imagery alone.
Before the Fall by Noah Hawley
Captivating from page one. The story of the lone survivors of a plane crash and the events that led up to it. It is released in tidbits, traveling back and forth from back story to back story, character to character. Fast paced and deeply human.
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Raise your hand if you have/want to watch this HBO series! I read The Husband’s Secret a few years ago and am pretty sure I described it as fluff. Nothing wrong with that, but even then people told me that this one by the same author was much better. I held off and I’m glad I did. Big Little Lies is quick and captivating. The characters feel stereotypical but real. It’s a quick read and it’s worth it.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ranson Riggs
This one has been on the list for a while and I’m glad to have finally gotten around to it. I’ll pick up the movie soon but not the sequel.
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Unsure of where/when I first heard of this one, but it has always been of interest. A dystopian story that moves in vignettes, releasing its secrets in whispers.
Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris
I hesitate to say dime a dozen thrillers.... but.... dime a dozen thriller. This one is a little overdone at times but some parts felt immeasurably cruel.
