A Brief Overview of 7 Months:
3 months into my time at UVA I was approached by another Charlottesville company asking if I wanted to manage their campus recruiting program. Of course, right? After a lot of hemming + hawing I eventually decided to go through the interview process and made the switch in January of this year. I’ve made a lot of horizontal moves in my career, but this was a jump, y’all. Having the chance to direct an entire campus program (including a summer internship program) was incredibly compelling to me and financially it made so much sense. So, here we are!
Continuing to love all things Pure Barre. The team in Charlottesville is strong and we’ve celebrated babies + engagements and studio birthdays together. A few weeks ago we went stand up paddleboarding which was a perfect way to spend a summer Wednesday night.
Apparently teaching at one studio wasn’t enough, so a few weeks ago I started coaching at TreadHappy which is an indoor treadmill studio in CVL, RVA, and coming soon to CLT! It’s a fun studio - lots of opportunity to grow as an instructor through a more freeform workout. The signature class is TreadTempo which is 45 minutes on the tread running through intervals, incline work, speed work, push paces, + all out speeds. It’s super fun! We do a lot of outdoor runs and race training programs too so lots to be involved with.
We celebrated birthdays!! Bryce turned 30 and I turned 28 back in May. My birthday was the second start date for our summer interns so needless to say my day was very busy but so very fun.
Speaking of summer interns!! I can’t believe they are basically almost done? Time flies. We had 32 college students intern with us across our Charlottesville + Durham offices in a variety of roles including software engineering, product design, QA, security, and more. I was so nervous for them to start but they’ve all done an incredible job over the course of the summer and I’ll be so sad when the first group leaves this coming Friday. Last week the CVL interns went out on a hike to Humpback Rocks (which was incredible if you’re in the area!) and the Durham interns went to TreeRunner Ropes Course which was so fun. They are all so smart and funny and I felt lucky to be able to spend time with them outside of the office.
Summer vacations have been good as usual. We took our annual trip to Topsail Island a few weeks ago (sob, already over) and before that I did a whirlwind trip to NJ + my grandma’s beach house to see my parents and sister. That was quick but so perfect to see everyone and my grandma was so surprised! Worth every cent I paid in tolls... lord.
