In the spirit of middle-fingering s2+ of YJ, I updated my otp tag for Spitfire to ‘otp: it sounded fine out loud’, because, hoo boy you talk about a scene I love.
The lighting of the Bioship, the music, the softness of the scene, the earnestness from Wally, his little smile when he turns back to the front, the fact that he was mulling it over for a while before he said something because he knew it had to be right and sincere and it had to come from him. He was a root cause of her insecurity in that episode and you can see him realize that when his eyebrows shoot up when she says “Sure. Team’s needed a real archer”. Because contrary to popular belief he’s not stupid. He picks up on it, he doesn’t want her to feel that way because he values her and the Team values her and he needs her to know that.
It’s just such a beautiful moment. Quiet and soft and private, a little bubble.
Wally: “This might be one of those things that winds up sounding better in my head than out loud, but… You are a real archer. No, I mean, I’m jazzed about Red Arrow! We go way back, you know? But you… you’ve made your own place on the Team. You’ve got nothing to prove. Not to me. Okay?”
Artemis: “Okay... And, um, Wally? It sounded fine out loud.” (The way she looks at him ghurfdbufbb my babies)
Just uuuuuuugh so good. 🤌🤌 And the fact he’s echoing her words back from earlier?
Artemis: “So what if I wasn’t brought in because I impressed them. I’ve spent the last six months doing nothing but. I’ve got nothing to prove, I’m one of a kind.”
Like. Just. That’s a tasty meat ball! I want to store this moment in my pocket.
