Can't believe these two invented yearning and loneliness
I <3 when a ship name isn’t just two names
Update: A Sweet Tune, a Little Art, and a lot of Heart
Fic Summary:
18 years of age and Miles still doesn't know what kind of Mage he wants to be. There are so many paths he can choose, and yet none check all the right boxes. In an attempt to put off making a decision for as long as possible, Miles signs up for a quest. He is paired up with the freshly retired, heroic Mage of legend, Professor Peter B. Parker. A true protector of the common man and a vanquisher of dark art users. As exciting it is to be traveling with this legend, Miles can't help but wonder why Prof Parker retired from adventuring in his prime. As the pair venture off they come across troubled wander. Whether she brings trouble or secrets of a great greater evil is to be seen. Though what is easy to see is she has been long running from her past.
(i.e. Two artists falling in love as they try to find their place in this messy world)
Chapter 5:
As Miles aids Gwen, he's constantly pulled back to thoughts of his past and of a different life he could of lived.
I’m so glad someone else noticed how the writers tried to make ghostflower work in the movie is by isolating miles and making it seem like his universe is mundane and boring in his eyes without his other spider people friends. we see him dabbing up Ganke in the end of the 1st movie but it never went anywhere, why? It’s exactly for the whole purpose of making Miles seem detached from his own universe, isolating him and disregarding his friendships. It’s especially prominent in a scene where gwen appears in his room and there was a light coming from her side (because she was standing behind the window) while miles’ side was dark and gloomy (because he was standing next to the door) to signify how lonely he was without her and how she “lights” up his world. On another somewhat related tangent: I’m never on board with a ship that makes the black or character of color puts the white character on a pedestal because as a POC myself I’m so tired of colorism and making whiteness as the pinnacle of beauty standards.
This
I really don't like how the writers were minimizing Ganke when he was originally supposed to be close to Miles in the first draft but they wanted to minimize his impact on miles in the second movie.
Because why are they isolating this black boy both narratively with the spider society treating him like an outsider and him seemingly not being able to actually make friends and close relationships simply because he's hyper focused on Gwen for some reason
Which makes the ending of the first movie feel meaningless. Because it implied that he was going to build his own community and relationships similar to how Peter B was rebuilding his relationship with his world Mary Jane and what else makes this bad is because the next movie is going to be the last movie...
Oh yeah for those who don't know the next movie is not coming out till like 2029 so a lot of us are going to be in our 30s
And honestly I feel like part of the reason why they're constantly editing and rewriting the movie is because I feel like now they're acknowledging the fact that they actually set miles up narratively horribly in some ways. I also feel like some of the writing has to do with the current political climate and because things that Rocky right now they probably don't know what type of narrative if they're trying to push because I feel like they don't know which part of the fandom they want to cater to right now but that's just me....
I'm calling it right now they said they wanted to do a project that's supposed to send her around Hobie and even if they do that I feel like they are going to find a way to push Gwen instead
But back to how the narrative for some reason is trying to make it seem like miles has nobody when narratively in the comics he actually has an extremely large group of friends within his own universe
Because the comics and the movies affect one another and I actually don't like how them isolating miles might actually affect him in the comics because he has an extremely large friend group and as close with his family.
But they're pushing this narrative that he has no one outside of this extremely distant group of friends and a white girl with issues
Because where are they trying to push the narrative that this. Charismatic lovable funny and talented young black boy has no friends.? When clearly he was popular and had a lot of friends at his old school. And even though the school is very different and probably whitewashed there's no way he wasn't capable of making friends if someone like Ganke was there and he's clearly at least on friendly terms with him. Especially to the point where they're sharing clothes. There's a certain level of familiarity that you have to get with someone to do that.
So I find this very insidious
ghostflower make me sad bc I love Gwen and Miles but not together it’s just so???? Like I feel like e majority of their relationship was Mike putting Gwen on a pedestal but if I say it everyone will immediately call me a racist who doesn’t like interracial relationships like no???
I love interracial relationships I just don't like interracial relationships where it just feels like the white person is always the prize who has to be chased after.
Or in the case of bridgeton that person can basically do the most out-of-pocket thing but romantically they're still seen as the prize
Quite literally none of those crusty bridgertons don't deserve the people of color they end up with
That guy Penelope marries also doesn't deserve her but that's as far as I'll go with her because she's also racist...
I don't like Gwen and Miles together because they simply don't belong together I feel zero chemistry from them.
And honestly it's really gross how his crush on her overlaps him mourning his uncle. And honestly I don't even feel like those feelings for her are genuinely real I feel like they lean more into an infatuation and probably a distraction from the fact that he might feel guilty that his uncle died because of him. Which is also part of the reason why he goes so hard wanting to save people because I'm a be honest his feelings for Gwen never actually felt genuine they feel more like it's an infatuation and a distraction because those feelings are so fleeting that he can easily catch feelings for a girl Like Margo who he actually has chemistry with and actually seem to have mutual feelings with
I want to add that my personal opinions about Gwen being a distraction also stems from the fact that he's a 15-year-old boy who went through something traumatic and probably also doesn't know how to communicate what he's going through to himself because the movie also shows that he lives a fast paced chaotic life and has a lot on his shoulders as a hero and as a civilian outside of that he doesn't exactly have the easiest work-life balance and sometimes putting yourself in this magical romantic La La Land helps as an escape.
But that doesn't make the feelings real especially since he's having potential romantic feelings for a person he hasn't been in active communication with and I feel like everyone forgets that..... These two have not talked to each other for a year they don't share social media they don't text.
And let's be so freaking honest you guys they only do each other for a few days and Gwen may have told him her sad backstory and they may have bonded but nothing they had going on in the first movie felt like I build up to romantic chemistry if anything his crush it just seems like it came out of just simple attraction to a girl and then manifested into an infatuation because at the end of the day he don't know her for real
The only one who probably actually knows when on a deeper level is likely Hobie
And this isn't even touching on the fact that miles is honestly better off without Gwen because I don't care what type of defense you have for her being a kid or whatever. What she did to miles in the second movie was a horrible betrayal because she straight up look this man in the eyes and basically was like.
Yeah man you have to be a statistic and be a black child without a father you have to let your dad die
Mind you this wasn't something that was probably a big deal to her because she basically ran away from home because her dad pulled a weapon on her.
So she don't really care about fathers at the moment.... Not to mention she did not want to defend Miles when Miguel was being needlessly nasty toward him and isolating him.
But because of how the movie is constantly being edited.... And because of how the world is right now. I don't trust that the results between their relationship is going to be something that pleases me because they also got rid of Miles as black girlfriend in the comics which just feels like they're getting ready to try to push him to be with Gwen there too. And honestly they're about to make me hate a character because they're centering him around a white girl who does nothing but had chaos and disruption to his life.
When narratively he seems to be more at peace with a black girl
This isn't even saying interracial relationships are bad .n these relationships are just bad when it seems like the white person does nothing but bring disruption to that person of color is life.
Gwen and Miles at the beginning of Across The Spider-Verse:
Okay imagine just imagine a scene like this with Gwen and Miles in the third act of Beyond The Spider-Verse complete with love confessions and oversharing because they have A LOT to talk about. I already barely survived Wildehopps, I ain't surviving Gwiles if they pull off something like this.
Late night patch up.
