💖 What is your primary writing goal for this year?

Last year I would've told you something really ambitious, but this year, I'll just say "keep writing." 2024 has been a tough year for me and I'm looking forward to leaving it behind. I hope it means more writing, but honestly, any writing is good.

🐌 What is one of your smallest writing goals?

Get to the end of the chapter I'm working on, I think. Not sure I have any goals smaller than that.

🌈 What research do you plan on doing for your writing? (Or, what's the funniest thing you've had to research while writing?)

Mmm, I need to reread LotR and all the extended work pertaining to the Rohirrim at some point for eventual Eomer/Lothiriel fic I'm planning. I feel the context is probably necessary for that one. I need to reread Sir Gawain and the Green Knight for a different fic (which I'm really hoping to get to this year). And for original writing, I need to read some comparative religions scholarship about monetary contributions to religious organizations.

So, feel free to ignore, but it's the wee hours of the morning and I was scrolling through Under the Vines content while procrastinating writing a paper and I got to wondering: What do you think would happen if Louis Oakley and Celebrimbor met?

Like, if Louis got isake'd to Middle Earth or vise versa, or if they met in some in-between world, do you think they'd get along?

That is an interesting question, I have thought about it, not a lot but a little.

And I think Louis would have a harder time understanding what was happening, maybe even think he had accidentally eaten Hilary’s special brownies again.

Now first things first, wine, now it may not be first age vintage I’m sure he will love the Stanley. <- now this was suggested to me by a fellow fan! Aka @hellyescharlesedwards aka @reginaldmaudling 💚

They would probably get along after the initial shock of meeting someone who looks exactly like but is another species entirely.

Celebrían/Elrond/Glorfindel isn’t something I’ve thought about and the idea doesn’t tempt me unfortunately. Might be because I always envision him married to and obsessed with Ecthelion 💖💖💖

Colin/Penelope has my HEART!! I’ve read the books and am soooo uncomfortable with the way Penelope is framed with regards to weight loss……so I’m super happy that the show hasn’t followed this for the most part (although there were some fatphobic comments in s1) and I’m GAGGGGGED by the promo pics and AAHHHH!!!! If this show had come out when I was a teenager it would have been revolutionary for me because it’s still SO RARE to see a ‘plus size’ (in quotations because I don’t think Nicola is plus size?) woman as the object of affection and romance!!!!!!!!!! I love them so much for that alone and I know I’m gonna be a MESS when it comes out!!!!!!

For the ship ask, Thingol and Melian?

Bingo! It's funny bc I don't really think about them that much but I have many opinions.

The not seeing them as romantic (kinda? But also not? It's complicated) and not dating but married squares are related because of my eldritchly-aspec ainur agenda. Melian saw Thingol and went "Ah. We are Fated, and he is Mine, and I am His. Now what do I do?" See also the devotion.

The compatible brand of freaks square is bc Thingol is Into This, and honestly I think that they both vibe with the funky stuff the other has going on. The fucked up square is because while they are very sweet and devoted, there are. Some obvious potential issues with the relationship. I don't think it's actively unhealthy, per say, but I think there are lots of communication breakdowns rooted in misunderstandings and insecurities (?), and accidental boundary violations that end up swinging too far away to overcompensate (mostly on Melian's part), and of course when you have an incomprehensible eldritch demi-goddess and the incarnate trying to comprehend her that's not really a setup for success.

Thematically delicious is because of the parallels to Beren and Luthien (I am Predictable), and I actually have a post about Thingol that I'm working on rn that goes more in depth bc it's so so juicy to me. I'm also mostly done a Melian-centric fic with a focus on how she feels in the relationship so yeah they intrigue me.
