Rapunzel Riddle x Flynn Rider m!reader: When will my life begin? (Pt.1)
Once upon a time, a single drop of starlight from a red star fell from the cosmos. And from this small drop grew a magical ruby red rose. It had the ability to heal the sick and injured.
Centuries passed and a hop, skip and a boat ride away there grew a kingdom. The kingdom was ruled by a beloved king and queen.
The queen was about to deliver her baby, but she got sick…really sick. She was running out of time and that’s when people usually start to look for a miracle, or in this case a magic ruby flower.
However instead of sharing the star’s gift an old woman kept the magic for herself, using it to make herself younger for hundreds of years. And all she had to do was sing a special song.
But one fateful night she accidentally knocked over the fake bush she was hiding it under, which resulted in the royal guards finding it and taking it to the palace.
The magic of the ruby flower healed the queen. A healthy baby boy, a prince was born with beautiful red hair. His name was Riddle.
To celebrate his birthday the king and the queen launched a flying lantern into the sky. And for that moment everything was perfect.
And then that moment ended. The evil woman broke into the castle, stole the child and just like that, gone!
The kingdom searched and searched, but they could not find the prince. For deep within the forest, in a hidden tower, the woman raised the child as her own.
She had found her new magic flower, but this time she was determined to keep it hidden.
“Why can’t I go outside?”, the small child asked, as his ‘mother’ brushed his hair. “The outside world is a dangerous place, filled with horrible selfish people. You must stay here, where you’re safe. Do you understand flower?”, the woman cooed. “Yes, mother.”, Riddle replied.
But the walls of that tower could not hide everything. Each year on his birthday the king and queen released thousands of lanterns into the sky, in hope that one day their lost prince would return.
Over seventeen years have passed since then and Riddle was now all grown up. Day in day out he stayed within the tower, a small chameleon being the only friend keeping him company, when his mother went away.
He spent his time trying lots of different hobbies and activities. In the morning he first started on the chores and swept until the floors were all clean. Afterwards he’ll polish, wax, do laundry and mop.
By the time he swept again only fifteen minutes had passed, so he went after his next activity, which was reading. He read about three books, before adding a new painting to his gallery.
He played guitar, knitted, cooked and basically just wondered when would his life begin?…
As he was lost in thought he heard his mother coming home. He let his hair down at the window and pulled her up.
Today was the day… Riddle’s birthday was tomorrow and he had hoped that his mother would allow him to leave the tower for once, so he could see the floating light. He knew they weren’t stars, since they only appeared on one day of the year, his birthday.
The conversation went just as you’d expect. It was an immediate and absolute no. She went on and on about the dangers of the outside world. All the Ruffians, thugs, poison ivy, quicksand, cannibals, and many more scary things.
Riddle of course listened to his mother’s warnings, since his mother knew best after all…
In the same forest but on the complete opposite end, a pare of rapid footsteps could be heard, paired with heavy panting. You were on the run after your latest job. It was to steal the prince’s diadem from the castle.
You ran through the forest, your two accomplices at your sides, as the royal guards were on your trail, the loud sound of their horse’s gallop getting closer and closer.
Somehow you managed to shake them off, leaving your two partners behind in the process. With a smart move you managed to throw down the general off his horse, but sadly that exact horse was your downfall. Quite literally since you two ended up falling down a cliff, after the tree trunk you two were standing on broke.
Thankfully you weren’t injured, however you needed to find a place to hide very quickly. That’s when you spotted a beautiful large tower. Out of fear of getting caught by the crazy horse, you stated climbing the tower, only using two arrows.
Just when you reached the top and you thought you were finally alone with the diadem, you felt something hard hit the back your head, before everything went black.
Riddle looked at the guy on the floor in fear, as he hid behind a mannequin. He held his pan out in front of him like a weapon. He tapped you a little, checking for the pointy teeth you were supposed to have.
However all he saw was a guy just like himself. As he analyzed your face, you suddenly opened your eyes again, which resulted in another quick swing of his pan to your head.
He then hid you away in his closet, feeling more at peace now. As he glanced at himself in the mirror, he noticed the diadem from your bag in the reflection.
He picked it up and started inspecting it. He had never seen such strange thing before. It looked like an accessory of some sorts, but where did it go on?
The neck? No, there was no opening. The wrist? No, it was way too wide for that. That’s when he turned to the mirror again and placed it on his head. It fit perfectly, like it had been made for him.
That’s when a familiar voice called out to him. “Riddle, let down your hair!”, he heard his mother’s voice from outside. “One moment mother!”, Riddle replied, as he walked over to the window.
“I have a big surprise!”, his mother added, as she was pulled up by her son. “I do too!”, Riddle replied excitedly. “I bet my surprise is bigger!”, his mother retorted. “I seriously doubt it.”, Riddle whispered.
“I brought back parsnips. I’m going to make your favorite hazelnut soup for dinner. It’s packed with healthy monounsaturated fats, vitamin E and magnesium. Surprise!! ”, she replied proudly, as he stepped inside.
“Well mother there is something I want to tell you.”, Riddle spoke up. “Oh Riddle, you know how much I hate leaving you after a fight. Especially when I’ve done nothing wrong.”, she replied while setting her basket on the table.
“Yes, I wanted to talk to you about that.”, Riddle replied as he walked over to his closet, that had you hidden inside of it. “Riddle, I thought we had dropped the issue sweetheart. ”, she answered getting a bit more agitated.
“I know you don’t think I’m strong enough to handle myself out there, but if you just-”, Riddle replied. “Riddle, we are done talking about this!”, she spoke in a rather serious tone.
“But mother if you just-”, he tried again. “Enough with the lights, Riddle! You are not leaving this tower! Ever!”, his mother yelled back.
Riddle visibly flinched and removed his hand from the closet handle. “Great, now I’m the bad guy.”, his mother sighed. Riddle thought for a moment before finally speaking up again. “All I was going to say, mother is that I know what I want for my birthday now.” He replied in a cautious tone.
“And what would that be?”, his mother asked. “New paint. The paint made from the white shells you once brought me.”, he explained. “That is a very long trip, Riddle. Almost three days’ time.”, she complained, still annoyed from the previous banter.
“I thought it was a better idea than the star...”, he replied looking down. His mother just sighed and gave in. Shortly after they bid their farewells and she was on her way.
The second his mother was out of sight, Riddle ran back inside to the closet. He opened the closet using his hair, which resulted in your unconscious form meeting the hard floor. Riddle then proceeded to tie you to a chair, using his hair as rope.
You got woken up by the feeling of something wet in your ear, which turned out to be a chameleon’s tongue. You took in your surroundings. You were still in the tower you fled to, but you were tied up on a chair…wait is that hair??? “Struggling…struggling is pointless!”, you heard a voice speak from a dark corner.
“I know why you’re here and I’m not afraid of you.”, he added, before slowly stepping into the light where you could fully see him. “Who are you and how did you find me.”, the mysterious boy spoke, whilst holding his pan.
After a moment of silence you cleared your throat, before speaking up. “I know not who you are, nor how I came to find you. But may I just say… Hi. How you doing? My name’s M/n L/n. How’s your day going?”, you replied, being cocky and charismatic as always.
“Who else knows my location, M/n L/n?”, he asked threatening you with his pan again. “All right, redhead-”, you started. “Riddle!”, he corrected. “Bless you. Here’s the deal. I was in a situation, gallivanting through the forest. I came across a tower and- oh oh no. Where is my satchel?!”, you spoke while frantically looking around for you satchel.
“I’ve hidden it. Somewhere you’ll never find it.”, Riddle replied proudly. “But regardless M/n L/n, what do you want with my hair? To cut it?! Sell it?!”, Riddle asked while he holding his pan to your throat. “What?! No, listen the only thing I want with your hair, Is get out of it…literally!!”, you replied.
“Wait….you don’t want my hair?”, he paused confused. “Why in the world would I want your hair? Look, I was being chased, I saw a tower, I climbed it, end of story.”, you repeated, which earned you a skeptical look from both Riddle and his pet chameleon.
“Okay M/n L/n, I’m prepared to offer you a deal. Look this way.”, he replied as he walked over to his painting of the floating lights, knocking you onto the floor with his hair in the process.
“Do you know what these are?”, he asked curiously yet still with his guard up. “You mean the lantern thing they do for the prince? ”, you muttered, since your face was on the floor.
“Lanterns? I knew they weren’t stars! Well tomorrow evening, they will light up the night sky with these lanterns. You will act as my guide, take me to the lanterns and return me home safely. Then and only then, will I return your satchel to you. That is my deal”, Riddle proposed.
“Yeahhh, no can do. Unfortunately the kingdom and I aren’t exactly ‘simpatico’ at the moment, so I won’t be taking you anywhere.”, you turned down the deal right away.
“Something brought you here M/n L/n, call it what you will fate, destiny-”Riddle began. “…a horse.”, you added annoyed. “So I have made the decision to trust you. But trust me when I tell you this.”, he replied as he pulled your chair forward, stopping it with his arm, so he was caging you.
“You can tear this tower apart brick by brick, but without my help, you will never find your precious satchel.”, he spoke in a stern tone. “Let me get this straight, I take you to see the lanterns, bring you back home and you’ll give me back my satchel?”, you asked.
“I promise! And when I promise something, I never ever break that promise.”, Riddle assured looking serious, which just earned him a skeptical look from you. “All right, listen. I didn’t want to have to do this, but you leave me no choice. Here comes the smolder.”, you spoke arrogantly as always, before making a rather…interesting facial expression.
In response Riddle was not impressed at all, he just stared right at you, his expression not faltering even once. “This is kind of an off day for me. This doesn’t normally happen… Fine! I’ll take you to see the lanterns.”, he finally gave in. “Really?!”, Riddle asked excitedly, accidentally letting go of the stool in the process, which send you face first onto the floor again.
“Oops.”, Riddle replied sheepishly. “You broke my smolder…”, you replied with a groan.
Before long Riddle untied you from his hair and you started climbing down the tower, with your arrows again. Riddle on the other hand stood at the window hesitantly. He always listened to his mother, never breaking even a single rule, especially not the one that bound him to the tower for eternity. But as he looked down at the green grass, a glimmer of hope came to his eyes.
And in that moment he just decided to jump down, using his hair as a rope. This marked the beginning of Riddle’s dream finally coming true and his first disobedience against his mother’s rules.
Hey everyone, I hope you liked part 1 of this retelling of Rapunzel but with Riddle Rosehearts. I got this Idea after playing the event a second time. And I wanted to post it today, since the event just ended.
I also wanted to write this story in celebration to finally getting my favorite card in the whole game (tho he did take his sweet time, since the first time the banner was around, I lost my 50/50 and now I had to spent exactly 200 pulls for him to finally come home).
Anyways I hope you guys liked this story, since it’s not what I usually write. Also in this part I used lots of dialog from the original movie, but I will try to bring Riddle’s character out a bit more than in the next part.
Wither and decay / Freedom is obedience
Wither and decay
End this destiny
Break these earthly chains
And set the spirit free,
The spirit free...
Rapunzel Riddle exists in canon but has anyone ever considered him with the decay incantation from Tangled the series?
Or have we considered how losing all your senses and going into a trance-like state as you destroy everything around you isn't too dissimilar to overblotting?
