Slate Star Codex was a window into the psyche of many tech leaders building our collective future. Then it disappeared.
Well, the NY Times posted it. It’s on their front page right now!
It’s definitely more of a hit piece than I originally guessed. But the attempt to make a hit piece makes it pretty dumb, like a conspiracy theorist grasping at straws for connections between SSC and racists.
I also like the “I found his name on Google so clearly it’s ok to spread” as if spreading secrets you found while Google stalking someone wasn’t literally exactly how doxxing works, also with no response to the subtle important point about why psychiatrists need a certain kind of anonymity he had but wouldn’t if his name was in an article on the front page of the NY Times like it is now.
I’m sympathetic to the idea that good journalism often involves publishing information someone wants to keep private (like the Watergate scandal), but if you don’t even mention the very clear reasons someone gives for wanting to keep his name private, you’re definitely writing a hit piece.
Look at this magical bean!
