Touy showcase: hotroddin edition
My all beloved Rat Fink!!
The one the only hot roddin rat!! This is such a cool action figure, I got him for Christmas the other year. But for some reason, I can’t seem to find what company made him. He doesn’t even have a label on him as far as I can tell, nothing on the foot or the backside. But It’s definitely not a custom toy, as there’s quite a lot of these guys. A weird mystery!
I did find this box art though but I’m not sure if it’s the same exact figure. It’s hard to tell.
I. LOOOOVE RAT FINK!!! I actually don’t know much about hot rodding and kustom kulture (the art of making swanky cool cars!) but I love Ed Roth’s art and characters so much.
Ed Big Daddy Roth and his little Rat Fink basically became the mascot of hotrodding and customizing cars! And his art inspired many others to make gross out pieces (including me!) looking up Kustom Kulture art (and ignoring the yucky AI) this has become a style associated with all things wacky and zany and car like. I wouldn’t doubt it if the gross out cartoons of the 90s took inspiration from it all!
And a lot of times cartoons reference this! If you ever see a character get crazy bulging eyes and a crazy look and tongue hanging out behind the wheel, or that 8 ball stick shift, it’s most likely a rat fink reference! This guy was everywhere!
Now for the toy itself. What I love about this figure is how DETAIILEEED IT IS ITS AMMAAZIJNNG!!! So many other rat fink figures are very 2d kinda 2 pieces just put together, and it’s usually inspired by the art of Rat with his arms behind his back. But this one is totally 3d and I adore it! And it feels so perfect to the art too. There’s so many gnarly bumps and ridges and things I absolutely adore it.
And all the details of the bits of fur texture too and even the hair we all forget he has !! It’s so good. And I love the fact that his overalls are so smooth and perfectly rounded in comparison to the character himself. I also love the bandage on his tail.
This is honestly one of my most favorite figures I own I adore this guy. I’ve always wanted to make fursuits, but I’ve always wanted to go off the beaten path and for the longest time I’ve wanted to make a fursuit in this gnarly style, similiar to Fleecerot’s work. So hopefully one day I can do that! And also I’ve discovered the art of puppet making (well I made a good puppet once and now daydream about making more) and hope to make some cool guys in this style too.

This will be my 69th post. The character in the pic is my OC, Ettore. I've done a few videos of him on my YouTube channel (whether they're good is debatable).
Ettore is a catboy who can also turn into just a cat. He is Sicilian American, like I am. He is a gay MSM.
