Hey, rat lovers of tumblr, I need your advice/opinions. 

I’m planning to adopt a large adult male rat from the local shelter in the next few days, and this is the set up I have so far. I have a ton of fleece and will be lining all the purple plastic parts with it. Also, I’m hoping to swing by the dollar store in the next few days and get some baskets to zip tie to the bars in various spots, all of which will be filled with fleece. I’m also going to be making some fleece hammocks to hang in there.

I have unscented paper pellet litter for his litter box and Oxbow adult rat food for his diet (I’ll also be giving him fresh fruits and veggies as treats).

Is there anything about this set up that looks wrong or bad to any of you, also, do you have any advice for me? I’ve owned rats before, but it’s been a long time and I know I didn’t do it right the last few times.

Edit: Also, since he is alone and likely has been his whole life, should I keep it that way, or try to get him a little friend? I know rats are social, but I have no idea if they deal well with new rats being introduced after being alone for a long time.
