I finished my first book for the readathon and celebrated with my first koldskål with kammerjunker of the year - both snack and book was highly anticipated!
I wish Artemis had lived up to my expectations as much as the food did. I really enjoyed the science fiction aspect of the book! Like the actual science and all the ways Weir’s worked on the concept of a city on the moon were superb, to me it was just as interesting as The Martian and very well executed! I liked the heist (as much as I’ll ever enjoy murder, mafias and money driven people), and I appreciated the friendships, but I can’t help but feel Weir had one kind of character up his sleeve and he’s copy pasted Mark Watney into the story and called him Jazz Bashara. It also very much suffered from ‘men writing about women’-syndrome.
tl;dr: I enjoyed Artemis, but I kinda wish Andy Weir’d worked on the science, the moon city and then handed everything over to Becky Chambers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
